No longer a new player

Recommended Posts

So after a couple of weeks of dayZ i find myself considering that fact I'm no longer a new player. It was a steep learning curve but as my last surviver clocked up 57 zombie kills I can confirm it was worth the pain of learning.

  • My main piece of advise is as soon as the undead are in sight drop to prone and switch to 3rd person if its enabled.
  • I would also advise googling dayZ inventory and lightly reading up on it because I struggled to understand what was going on with it for a bit. Learn to move acess gear to your backpack.
  • Quickly learn to identify which houses you can enter. I spent a lot of time infiltrating zombie infested areas only to find that I couldnt get into any buildings. Trick is to zoom to the windows and if you can see in? then get in!!!
  • My most Importaint advise has nothing to do with game mechanics. Turn the lights off. Get the headphones on and cranked up!!! This game creates an atmosphere like nothing I've played before. Last time I jumped as much at a game was Doom!!!

Guys for those of you struggling to learn how to roll in DayZ my advise is keep at it. The rewards for learning the game are some of the best gaming experiances you will have. From jumping outa your seat in the dark when your girlfriend brings you a cup of coffee to feeling like a badass because you downed 57 zombies!!

Great work Rocket & Co!!! keep it up & thanks for this gaming gem :)

I definitely agree on the atmosphere comment. The seemingly random intense music really freaks me out, especially when I'm playing alone. Also hearing zombie noises nearby and not immediately seeing the zombie freaks me the hell out.

I had to learn about the backpack the hard way. For my first 20 hours of playing, I didn't know how to use it. So much stuff I could have hoarded... Oh well.

Anyway, congrats on Graduating from newbie! There is definitely a steep learning curve with this game but I agree, once you master the mechanics, it's very rewarding.

I'm not quite where you are - I'm still a newbie and I know it - but I'm getting there. Learning new things about the game every time I boot it up.

LOL agreed. Crawling around in the dark hearing the groans freaks the hell out me. Best freakout yet came as I stealthed my way towards a building in the dark. Got to the door and stood up, turned into the doorway and there were 2 zombies in the hall? Dont know if the spawned in there or were led there by someone but it scared the sh!t outa me!!!

Cheers Panda. Yeah I'm still learning myself. Got me a military shotgun and done some real damage. Found it at an airfield crawling with zombies and had read it was a hunting ground for vets hunting new players so took me ages to get in and out.

Really need to find some matches though!!! need meat to keep me kicking........

Lol I just learned about the backpack yesterday. Took me about 15 hours of gameplay to finally figure out and I didn't even figure it out on my own. My brother discovered it and clued me in.

On one of my very first lives I found a lee enfield and a friend who had a winchester. I made the mistake of shooting the lee enfield about 200 meters away from a town, and aggroed everything that could move.

30 min and lots of spent lee, mack and winnie ammo later both us had over 60 zombie kills where before we didn't have more than 10 :D

yeah, i still make inventory mistakes and somehow make items disappear forever. i'm working on it though.

i have good sound / headphones on my laptop gaming rig. headphones totally induces paranoia. i don't even hear the ambient sounds on my pc.

and yeah, i also think doom3 also induced paranoia for me in similar ways. i didn't think anyone else would mention that.
