Will turning off Vsync affect my computer negativly?

Recommended Posts

I'm not really that good with computer hardware and the inner workings of it.

I read somewhere that turning off vsync will increase fps by a bit.

It also said don't turn it off if you get screen tearing.

What is screen tearing?

If I turn Vsync off, will screen tearing do any unrepairable damage to my game, screen or anything in general?

Like I said, I have no clue about this, so I realize this is probably really simple ><

If you turn it off, your screen might tear and shatter and you might have to replace the glass in the front :D

Nah, jk. Screen tearing is just a term used to describe when the refresh rate of the game is different from the refresh rate of the screen, causing lines to appear and such. It doesn't damage anything and I would suggest turning vsync off for better FPS.

you have to use google for the full version of this, but basically tearing is what happens when the top half and bottom half of the screen get shown on your monitor at slightly different times(instead of the full refresh rate). This gives a ripping like line across the middle when you have lots of action or usually when you turn around on the spot a lot.

Tuning vsync on means that your graphics card will wait for a full image (frame) before sending it to your monitor, instead of sending 2 'out of sync' halves.
