Cheating With No Consequences

Recommended Posts

Until there is a way to determine the identity of all these cheaters who are logging in and nuking an entire server, there isn't going to be any way to report them. We need some kind of client-side log file that contains their player GUID.

Right now the whole server gets nuked and there's no way to tell who did it.

ROCKET > what is being done to address this problem? If this rampant cheating isn't stopped soon, DayZ will be labelled as a cheater's game and there will be a mass exodus.

Reporting cheaters is kind of pointless. Player names do not uniquely identify players (most hackers use blank names) and rocket/DayZ staff cannot issue global bans.

You just have to wait for the next BattleEye ban-wave to nab them.

Server admins can look at logs, but they don't really need the names to do that either - they can search for the scripts being executed. And banning a hacker from one server is like pissing on a bonfire. They will just move on to the next server.

This problem will likely not be addressed to satisfaction until DayZ goes stand-alone and can make some more permanent, engine-level changes to the client/server model and what clients are allowed to do with respect to script execution.

Right now it's a catch-22. Disabling client scripts would disable mods, which means no DayZ. But enabling client scripts means hackers...

So we have to live with it for awhile. :(

We don't have to live with it, we can spend our time playing games where we don't have to worry about somebody joining a server, teleporting you to them and then shooting you to death before you can do anything.

Knowing somebody can do that at any moment removes my desire to play DayZ.

Any other online game I just respawn without losing anything other than a few minutes of my time, choosing a different server to avoid the cheater. It happens to you in DayZ and you can lose hours, days, weeks of effort you've put into your character.

It needs to be addressed ASAP.

Well, if they aren't going to fix cheating then they need to make private servers an option.
