The most ridiculous way of version mismatch report is done by DayZ!

First of all I would like to say that I really adore this mod and for now this is the only game I play (bye bye World of Tanks and QuakeLive - at least for a few weeks more :)

Also, I would like to say that I do realize that this is still an ALPHA and bugs are inescapable. But today I was totally caught of guard not by a bug, but by a feature. :)

So I played on a server with 188 ping and suddenly I lost connection. This is not a big problem usually, but this time I lost connection at the center of small village, filled with zombies, which I wanted to aggro in order to shoot them in the barn, where they are week (I'm such a smart ass!). Still not a problem, village is well known to me so I reconnected to a different server and prepared to run for my life in the direction of aforementioned barn. And then the shit hits the fan.

I was spawned at the same place I was last time before disconnection. Server was different, but zombies were in the same numbers - so I prepared to have my fun in the barn after some refreshing jogging with screams of zombies behind my back. But, all of a sudden, screen turned totally black, and the only thing I was able to see was message about me having outdated version 1.5.7 and server having 1.5.8.1. Also I heard lots of sounds - basically sounds of zombies spotting me.

In a few seconds screen turned from black again to normal. I analyzed situation, took the direction and hit the run button. But then - OMFG!!!! - the same black screen with the same message came up.

This time I heard not only sounds of zombies spotting me, but also sounds of zombies attacking. I ran in the total blackness for a second or two, when it went normal again I saw that I basically surrounded by zombies. As I was bleeding, with blood left around 5000 the best thing I managed to do - is to hit Abort button from the menu. This way my character was saved.

This is the way how I learned that update 1.5.8 finally hit the servers.

So my resume: saving character using dirty trick is not a thing to be proud about, but again, this ridiculously idiotic abomination of proper error reporting is also not the way how version check should be made. I should not be able to connect to server with different version in the first place, this is all.

I know that Rocket is overloaded right now (and this is an understatement :) but hope that sometimes in the future it will be fixed. :)

This is how Arma2 version check has always been implemented. If you find you have the wrong version just disconnect immediately. Don't run around and try to play. Why the heck would you do that? Its not abusing any system if you d/c because your version is off.

Also servers have the version next to their name. You would know what version it is unless you are one of those players who don't bother to take the second to read the name of the server and version.

Just learn your lesson and don't whine about how things are all the time.

Thanks, Captain Obvious!
