Map blank?

I'm very new to the game, don't have much idea what I'm doing.

When I click "M" and go to the map, it's just blank dark screen. Kind of frustrating since I seem to be getting lost without it and making the same big circles. Found a lot of ammo but no guns to use it with so going to the same place over and over kind of sucks.

google a map for it, find a roadsign and find your way around. At some point you will find a map and it'll make things slightly easier....

anyone ever have a map that for some reason reset itself to blank?

No but the OP might have not zoomed in. When you zoom out it shows barely any detail and they might have thought that the map was blank.
