Remove the bandit, create the legend

if you have to go with the OP idea, do the same in the negative zone, different skin for bandit, as you could actually see a difference between an occasional PK/self defense PK and a real dangerous threat (if you could even see him before you take a bullet in the head)

I strongly agree with the concept that's been floating around about having different levels of skins... all the way from your deranged sociopath to the super do-gooder, with most players falling somewhere in between. The bandit idea is a good first step in the right direction, a few more steps like that and it will be perfect.

Can we please let this not turn into hat fortress 2? The game shouldn't be about vanity and collecting clothes, it should be about survival. I feel that preoccupation with appearance has no place, and will only detract from the serious tone that the game should have.

Just because unlocks have become ubiquitous in FPSs and WoW doesn't mean we should adopt them. DayZ should be a counterpoint to the current Xynga/CoD gameplay trend of obsessive collection. The last thing I want to see is a refreshingly original, uncompromisingly challenging gameplay experience become its own antithesis.

There should be more skins, I agree it shouldn't become BF3, TF2 (APB would be nice), but there definitely should be more survivor skins, and more bandit skins. Cause the last time checked I didn't have 3 set outfits which were the exact same of every other person on this planet. Plus since you bought up seriousness, if I walked outside today and saw everyone wearing 1 of 3 outfits I have at the house for weeks on end I would gladly walk to the nearest mental institution and lock myself up. Because at that point I would seriously be on the verge of killing myself due to insanity.

I agree with you in thinking that some more variation might definitely be nice. I was thinking about installing this replacement pack, and it might be preferable to the default skins. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13097

However, I still think the variation should be 'natural', and not an incentive for the player. Nobody with a 4 hours life expectancy should be worrying about what they are wearing, and especially what they will be wearing after they 'die'. Instilling a sense of persistence across lives would really destroy the atmosphere and be a turn-off to new players I think.

All in all, I think whatever gameplay incentives there are should serve to keep the gameplay centered around survival, not collection.

The Main argument for me in the case of skin customisation is for player recognition, if your in a squad you want to be able to define who is who visually by their looks, if they all appear the same it's exceedingly difficult to quickly assess if you know this person or not, it can lead to friendly fire or even thinking a random player is one of your own.

This is a great idea - rewards for higher humanity ratings would be great and if they were good enough might solve alot of the PK problem.

You should, with the new "hearbeat" addition, be able to hear birds chirping or a harp or something when looking at a player with high humanity
