Can't pick up hatchets?

I don't know If I'm doing anything wrong, but I can't pick any hatchets and It's kind of gamebreaking as I need a starter weapon.

You're supposed to press G when you're hovering over them right? I've tried this with many hatchets but It doesnt show up, so am I doing it wrong?

move around and scroll the mouse wheel at the same time untill you see pick of hatchet than click. It is kind of glitchy to pick one up.

I still can't pick one up... I had one, then it wouldn't let me reload it after switching back to it, so I tossed it... now I can't pick up ANY HATCHETS!!!!!! I never get the prompt to be able to pick it up
