Average Life Expectancy

I noticed that recently the average life expectancy has gone up from about 28 minutes to now 49 minutes. That is a pretty big jump (on average). My theory is the recent infux of new players brought it down, but now they have either learned to survive, or stopped playing.

Anyone have any theories? I wonder if the devs have a sweet spot for what they would like that number to be.

I had the same theory. I base it on the fact that I am one of those new players and that's how it went for me.

Obviously people learn to survive as they play the game more. New players die constantly (myself included), and it seems logical that the life expectancy increases.

Indeed practice makes perfect, I have all I need so survive the apocalypse and would never have to encounter a human soul if I want to, it's getting lonely though and those sheep are starting to look cute!

I think zombie nerf made it easier to survive.

Yes, but when the zombies are less dangerous, the humans become more deadly.

Not to mention the addition of weapons and nerfing/fixing a few of them.

By the by people learn the game I used to play and get maybe an hour or 2 max before dying but now im on my first character to be alive for over 2 days and it gets better once you get over the learning curve.

Yeah, I must be on my 100+ spawn and I now average atleast 5-6 days alive if I make it past the first 2-3 hours of hardcore scavenging in Cherno/Elektro.

But it does make sense :D

At the beginning I was a noob.. so everyone was. Now I'm proud to celebrate my 14th day of survival. But I'm playing very carefully and only in groups of 2-4.

Yep did this since my first day... First 3 hours of playing i had to get the hang of controls but i had my friends waiting near the coast to talk me through everything. Now im alive for 16 days.

The Life expectency numbers are fake ...

It's because of people respawning till thay get to where thay really want to spawn that pulls the number down.

It should be around 4h+ imo.

I'm slowly bringing it down, if I spawn in Elektro my average life expectancy is 4 mins, in that time I might get 2-3 murders though :D

Respawns are not counted in the stats.

Good god I wish they would put a sticky post up that says this... I have to mention it at least a dozen times a day.

Life expectancy has been rising consistently since 1.7.0 or so (around the time they removed the bandit skin), and rose even faster when they took out the starting weapon so newbies weren't shooting each other in the face on the beach all day long.

That said, the most recent huge jump from ~38 to 49 minute was due to Vipeax changing the algorithm that calculates life expectancy. Whatever the change he felt the current implementation was a more accurate representation.

Respawns not being counted and all major youtubers have already done the bandwagon video for profit so no fresh blood has come in for awhile.

IMO, a combo of easier zed, no starting weapon and more people learning to stay the heck away from cherno and elektro has made it go up.
