Solution to server switch "teleporting"

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has been suggested before.

We are all aware of the present problem/exploit of players being able to switch back and forth between servers to teleport next to players they've spotted or to bypass wire emplacements.

My suggestion is for player position to be saved per server tied to your gameid. Therefore, if you switch servers, your gear will carry over, but any positional change you've made would only apply to the server you were on.

I'm sure there are downsides to this idea that aren't jumping out to me, but I think it could be a major improvement to the current way things work -- especially once instant disconnect escaping is removed.

Thoughts?

So I could camp every loot location at once?

I could fill a tent with supplies on one server and just disconnect and go the when in trouble, then just come back all fixed up.

I think the effort of setting up and maintaining a list of spawns for a character wouldn't be worth the fact that dying would make you lose all of that work instantly.

I just noticed your edit today where you have included the second line about disconnecting and going to a tent if you get into danger during a battle. I feel I already covered that concern in my OP:

"I think it could be a major improvement to the current way things work -- especially once instant disconnect escaping is removed."

The ability for people to teleport behind any static emplacement, including sniper positions, purely by server switching back and forth is a serious issue that I still believe my suggestion would resolve.
