Some suggestions for the future (from an Arma RPG player)

Recommended Posts

I have some suggestions that could be added in the future to improve role-play and whatnot in the mod, if the developers like em. Ive been playing the Arma/OFP series for a very longtime and have played many different mods over the years.

There was a role-play mod I used to frequent called CLU. It was a mod were you could either be a civillian or a cop. As a civ you could choose to be a manufacturer or a criminal, amongst other things. or as a cop to catch criminals or give out speeding tickets. I chose to be a criminal and was good at it. Here is what my gang and I used to get up to and its taken from ingame gameplay. None of it is staged:

In order to do all that, we had miners working for us. We had cops on the take (we paid them for information so we could bomb their colleagues, money talks!). We had manufacturers making guns and cars for us (and the carbombs).

There were lots of cool features in the mod that could be added here if the developers liked them. But im not sure how it would work with the servers being linked to the hive server but here were some of the features:

-Players could make ingame squads so they could communicate using the green com channel. It was useful for people wanting to keep their coms secret from the other players. Could work here as its not wise to let other players know what you plans are over global chat. In the game you went to a bulletin board in town and created/joined squads.

-Players had mobile phones so they could send texts to all other players on the server, useful too if you dont want other knowing were you are or what you are doing. Might not work in a post apocalyptic landscape as the cellular towers wouldnt work. But maybe use radios instead.

-There was a government and players could elect a mayor to set taxes and the like. Not sure if it could be used here, but might be good for roleplay and such.

-Players had access to stunguns that stunned a player when hit. They were knocked out for 30 seconds, so in that time the players' items could be looted. The stunned player also dropped their weapons on the ground, so they couldnt just get up and gun you down. Would be nice in DayZ to have something like that, cause at the moment you have to murder a person in order to take his beans.

-Their were many animations, but the most useful one was the "hands up" animation. When activated the player could have his stuff looted without the need to kill him. People might use it in DayZ if they are surrounded by hostiles and didnt want to go down swinging.

-Cops could stun people and handcuff them. Then they could drag the player into a car and take them to jail. If it was in DayZ you could stun another survivor and take him back to your lair and do unworldy deads there.

-Players could make buildings in factories, like the large white shop or barriers, and go make a base in the forest that was walled off and had gates for people to enter. It was a place were they could meet and hide from teh cops or just chill.

-Drugs were a major part of the game. They could be grown and refined then sold on or taken by the player. Some of the effects were interesting. Also, there was alcohol. When the player consumed it, the screen went all blurry and it affected the steering mechanism in cars. A bit like drinking in GTA IV. Since this game has got so popular, I dont think it would be wise to allow players to take hard drugs, but the alcohol might work. Go drinking around the campfire with your bandit/survivor pals.

-There was a carjack in the game that you could use to unflip cars that you might have crashed. I rolled a car in DayZ and had to wait until a server restart to get it back. Was nerve racking though as it was on a busy road and someone could have come across it at any moment.

-Players could go fishing and catch fish. Either in the sea in a boat or around the coastline or in lakes inland.

These are really simple ideas that would increase role-play things but they might not be suitable for the hive system. There are many more but they would require money and leveling up, something that might not suit the mod, but who knows what the future will bring. There is so much that the developers could do here. I cant wait to see it in a few months.

Edit: And as for the bandits skins being removed, It would be nice to have say 5 slots in the lobby for people wanting to have a bandits skin. Its seems that the population is 10% bandit, so being able to choose a bandit skin would be nice. Given the choice, I would take the way of the bandit everytime.

Stun guns, I think, would be a bit too rare but that doesn't mean the concept is useless. I think using blunt melee weapons (or even the stock of your gun barrel) could have the same effect.

This would give more credibility and use to using melee weapons against Zeds if you could use them for incapping players.

I am really into the radio idea.

THought about it for a while now. I think it would be great to have stationary radio's at major hubs. And low chance posibility to find mobile radio, maybe even make it require batteries. But i think it would be great to have that (Just like you had them in Life mod) To start you can have them set to one frequency, and if people use, maybe even allow to change the frequency. Would definitely bring a certain 'survivor' aspect :)

There are several good things that can be adopted here. For example, the alcohol part, it could be linked to the new body temperature feature, don't tell me that a few shots of straight jack wouldn't warm you up.

Most of these ideas seem very good, though may need some refinement. Fishing, car jack, stun gun, hands up, all seem very simple and good. Communication ones, like texting and squads may need more discussion.
