DayZ officially going standalone

Recommended Posts

If this was posted somewhere already, I apologize. I did look, but didn't see anything.

Not sure how I feel about this yet. Would very likely be cool, but I'm pretty sure that it would need to be better than the current DayZ mod on release. Otherwise, people or going to be upset that they have to pay money for an inferior game when they already paid for Arma 2.

EDIT: I just realized that this was an older article, so not new information. My bad, apologies for being trigger happy with the posting ;P

If people are upset that they have to pay for DayZ after buying ARMA2, its their own fault. DayZ is a free mod. They made the choice to pay to play it.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-16-will-bohemia-help-dean-rocket-hall-build-a-standalone-dayz-game-or-not

This article, 7 days after the OP's article says Rocket is sure it will become a standalone game, but just doesn't know when it would happen. Rocket said he was unsure if Bohemia would be the company to help him make it, but he would really like to make it with BI. The OP's article doesn't really mention any of the uncertainty and ambiguity that surrounds this idea of a standalone DayZ, instead saying, "It's coming."

I'm not refuting the OP, just giving context.

No offense taken. I actually didn't realize the article I posted was that old, until I went back for a second read. It was the first article I personally read that seemed to have actual official statements from Rocket, though. Namely the part about hoping to have something out by september, and the application of a "Minecraft" model.

Well, I'm going to buy the DayZ standalone, even if at the time it releases it is still the same version as the mod just because they don't have the specific restrictions from the Arma 2 Engine.
