How do people group and communicate?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys what is the best way to group with people in game? I don't really understand how the voice chat works or the regular typing chat.

Is there a thread explaining or would someone mind educating me on what they suggest?

I played for quite a bit over the weekend to check DayZ out and it seems really hard to find people to group with but when I did find someone I didn't know if they could hear me, see what i was typing, or what.

thanks

Most people play with groups they know and communicate through programs like mumble/teamspeak/ventrilo. The ingame system is useless for really trying to play with someone else.

some servers list their voip program server info when you join, so that is one way to communicate with people if you don't have friends otherwise

Well first off ≡HDU≡ is always looking for new members to help with survival so you can always join us in teamspeak at Helldogsunleashed.clants.net:4234 but as to your question of best way to find/comm with people, well that's not yet really been established effectively the best you can do is direct server chat and ask if anyone wants to team up then use Skype or ts or steam to comm your positions so you can join up in a specific location without giving it away to the whole server. For now most groups you see are friends in real life or clans/gaming communities that picked the game up and so forth. I wish you all the best of luck in finding a party and on your survival please keep in mind HDU and its ts and we are all USA based and English speaking and wouldn't mind having you but choose your parties wisely cause it can lead to your down fall.

Best way?

Go to the Survivors HQ section of the forums. Find a group that sounds reasonable, that has their own forums and voicecomms. Sign up with them, get on their voicecomms and play with them.

When I group up with strangers I try to communicate with them in direct communication channel. With direct communication channel you can hear the voice coming from the character who is speaking, and see his lips moving. It also fades realistically over distance, so it's the best option if you are looking for immersion and realism.

If it doesn't work, I use side channel as a temporary solution. If I team up with them I just ask everyone to go back to lobby (when we are close to each other) and rejoin the game, which fixes the direct communication most of the time.

I really hope they can get in game communication working well. It's fine to have a TS/Mumble and know a few people but the interactions with people not in your VOIP program are part of what make this game so intense.

Direct Channel VOIP should allow for a real experience talking with other survivors without a shoot on sight mentality. As it is now it is so hard to communicate with someone the decision to try to communicate is a decision to allow yourself to be shot in the hopes they are not hostile.

Side/Global is just broadcasting your position to the entire server.

Edit: I'll have to try wustenfuch's technique on resetting direct.

Thanks for the advice guys. Sounds like for now it's best to just stick with people you meet outside the game. Shenshade i might check out HDU thanks for the offer. I'm pretty new so not sure how good of a fit I will be but who knows!

I am wondering, does typed text in Direct Communication only show to people within a certain radius?

Direct Communication text is 20 meters. Voice is 80 meters.

there needs to be a way of doing a private invite with a maximum amount of player, only happens at the start of the game AND ONLY THE COAST

if this was implimented then this game would grow alot more than what it is now

people dont want to be running for hours looking for thier mates

Wow, I wish people knew that. So often people are using server wide channels to have local conversations. Ah well.

When someone spot me he ask me through the general channel, after some talk, we add each other to steam and talk using the chat windows and MIC.

When I spot someone, for exemple, I enter a building and there is a guy standing there looking at me scared, I quickly exit the building, hide in a bush then start asking them questions through gereral channel. If he wants to group, we add each other to steam and use our MIC there.

I've been using direct since I started playing dayZ. It works alright but sometimes some people don't hear voice or see text in direct talk channel. This can be fixed by gathering near each other in the game and everyone in the grouo going back to lobby and rejoining.

Today Bohemia Interactive has released a new ArmA 2 beta patch which seems to have more fixes to direct comms (and hopefully fixes it).
