vivalarazala 1 Posted May 21, 2012 After watching several "Bandit killing spree" videos! I notice that some of them cheat the point of night...they put the brightness all the way up which, IMO, ruins the point of night... any of you guys agree?
Katana67 2907 Posted May 21, 2012 Yep, it's whack. I think they should just make nights brighter, they're far too dark now to be called realistic. I get that it's based on server location weather, but the cloudiest nights I've seen in the most rural locations aren't pitch freakin' black. If nights were more reasonable, I think there would be less of a reward for jacking up the gamma. This'll prolly get locked cause it's been brought up countless times. vivalarazala 1 Posted May 21, 2012 I've never seen... If it's possible i like the darkness so i rather just keep it exactly the way it is, but idk maybe put a script so they cant change the brightness? Is that even possible? :O
Macenzie 79 Posted May 21, 2012 Brightness up, gamma up, HDR full and shadows off. That allows you to see reasonably in all but the darkest nights. It's a nessisary evil really, only fools play in broad daylight :P
kstone588 (DayZ) 5 Posted May 21, 2012 Is it even possible to restrict someone's brightness and gamma?
pozo15 2 Posted May 21, 2012 Restricting brightness with a script would be useless, because people can still change gamma and brightness settings on their video cards and screens. It's unfortunate, but we kind of have to rely on an honor system.Maybe hardcore servers have less shitty cheaters since they are only looking to play the system for an easy difficulty? Also, those guys get smoked during daytime, because they aren't actually good players to begin with. I've killed so many bandits that were just dumb as rocks, and totally clueless in how to navigate stealthy during daytime. Without their little crutch they are nothing.Unfortunately this attitude comes from people playing nothing but aracady games where it's just about memorizing and knowing how to cheat the game vs relying on actual mental skill to deal with unexpected/unforeseen events. This lack of creativity is why we have so many retards trying to min/max everything in this mod like loot spawn rate and locations, spawning into other servers at loot locations, etc. I have yet to understand how that is any fun. If you play this mod like that, you are the most boring person ever, also kill yourself.Just because these people feel powerless in their real life they feel they need to min/max anything they can control. It's sad. This whole game is about not knowing where things are and getting stuck in shitty situations, that's whats fun.Anyways, the brightness issue is just part of a much bigger mentality problem, and it's not going away.I hope Rocket goes out of his way to remove as much control from the player as possible. By that I mean, very randomized loot and locations etc. Anything to keep people on their toes constantly.
kstone588 (DayZ) 5 Posted May 21, 2012 Ya I agree with you ...... I find it more exciting when it's dark and you see flares in the distance . When u jack gamma all the way up it completely defeats the purpose
-LF-Nym 0 Posted May 21, 2012 After testing these settings out repeatedly and playing for awhile with them on normal and with the Brightness/Gamma/HDR I can say that the game is definitely more difficult and for some more immersive.ButThe lighting in the world at night is not even close what it is like in real life. For those of us who grew up out in the country away from light pollution of cities you all know very well that on a clear night you can see everything, almost as if it were day light out. Running with the B/G/H setup is pretty close to how the night should actually be. Not exact, but close. So to each his own I guess. I still really enjoy running the default settings but I know that if the server is full at night and I'm moving into a high population area with known bandits, I will most likely be using the B/G/H setting because odds are they are too. Or also on moon-less nights? I remember as a kid, the country fairly lit up with the moon out, but don't remember what it looked like without the moon.In-game, I've only played at nights that have no moon so far, but in regular Arma it also gets a bit brighter with the moon out. Tagert 0 Posted May 21, 2012 It's fine night time with the moonlight shining. But no moon and cloudy, then it's impossible without turning up the gamma and brightness.Atleast for me :o
-LF-Nym 0 Posted May 21, 2012 with moon crazy bright.with no moon still bright but you wouldn't have the hard casted shadows like you normally would with a moon.
Puppy (DayZ) 1 Posted May 21, 2012 imho, I've tried the gamma, brightness and hdr thing, it helps but at the same time makes the game look nasty and as someone who works with lighting I dont think i'll be using it again unless i absolutely have too (ie no flares or torch etc).I also come from the middle of nowhere in the countryside and agree with the others, night times arent really this dark since your eyes adapt to darkness. I know there is eye adaptation in the game so if it were possible to fiddle with the settings to allow it so after a while in the dark the hdr adapts allowing you to see more. at the same time this would also mean if you carry a flare you will have to adapt all over again once it goes out, adding a new dynamic to the game as people who havent been using flares will have a slight advantage over you for a short time. then again someone using a torch could easily also blind/disorientate someone whos adapted to darkness.more info for those who are unaware of what eye adaptation is:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adaptation_%28eye%29this is why in ideal conditions you are able to see a candle from about 3 and a half miles away. davsummers1996@yahoo.com 1 Posted May 21, 2012 Is there not some sort of global illumination system that Rocket can edit? (I'm not familiar with the ArmA Engine)
