Safe Zone Idea

On a serious note, I like the idea of a safe zone (you probably got it from The War Z right?) as it would allow the community to come together and interact, though I feel that with the limitations of the Arma engine, this may not be possible and if it is, it will be extremely bugged and hackers would have a party in such areas. Rocket may also see it as less realistic. The safe zone for The War Z was the one that got me more interest, as it would allow me to play a zombie survial mmo, but still interact with a vast amount of people.

Actually I didn't this is the first im hearing more about the War Z, besides HDDrews screenshot video,

There shouldn't be any safezone that is protected by the games mechanics, if players on a server want a safezone they should have the community make and keep it safe.

Very VERY little should be controlled with automated systems in the game, it should be about players make their server the one they want. We should have to have a seperate character for every server that way the communities will flourish.

This what I was talking about the entire time, player made safezones, not game coding. Nothing like WoW, or an easy way to the game

two questions you never replied to when we had direct chat, both got you shot

when we ahd direct chat we abused the crap out of it, accidentally reporting our positons(or rather where our guns are pointed) so ppl nearby would come check it, ppl asked for friendlies to group with then shot them, people asked for various sorts of help in various places so carebears would rush to the rescue and trip over thier own shoe laces and a 30-06

direct chat just let us screw with people even more, bringing it back would make it easier for the carebears to find a free hug, also becomes easier for ppl to find em and hug them with hatchets(we didnt have them back then :-| ) or just track them and take down a carebear share-a-thon and everyone taking part in it

the DAYZ community are fundamentally assholes, some of us pretend were not but virtually everyones an asshole no matter how much they deny it

I remember seeing an interview with Rocket where he was talking about something close to the therm of safe zones, and he said that he had disabled that because, while playing the game he didnt want to feel safe, he wanted to play with the "danger" ..

I personaly think that , that idea would kill the major idea of the game, surving , because, if you have a place with no Zombies and no threats, why would you leave that place ??

And as with was said before , the acessing ways to the Safe Zone , would be infested with snipers and bandits , making the getting out/in very difficult..

I really dont think that Safe Zones are a good idea :P

You cannot identify people, everyone looks identical.

You cannot put up signs

You can fortify all you want, people just server hop inside

These are all unrealistic, unauthentic and artificial restrictions that could and hopefully will be changed.

If you think gameplay and player interaction as of now is authentic and there is actual freedom to do stuff like defend safezones, you're delusional. Just because you are happy with just a deathmatch game, you're not entitled to tell people what to suggest beyond that and what not.

Thanks for this, these two points are exactly what I have been thinking. Rocket, please give us *tools* to build a better game. To enable deeper game mechanics, and stop being stuck in some sort of Battle Royale Groundhog day we urgently require some form of identification, either through appearance like being able to customize your char more + appearance changing through interacting with the environment (beards, scars) or if it's not possible due to engine limitation then through automatic identification, but only at very close range or when looking through binoculars/scope for set period of time. In lawless societies alternative forms of justice emerge, could be vigilantism or justice administered by quasi-government entities, but the total anonymity in the simulation won't allow this atm. The second issue is that we are stuck in an illiterate society which with global chat disabled makes it really hard to self-organize. We need to be able to have player created dairies, notes , message boards if Rocket wants to give us some chance to re-establish pockets of civilization.

We're being provided with toolboxes, E-tools, sandbags, barbed wire, bear traps and tank traps. Why not make it ourselves instead of having to use of the little precious time and code to create this things? Making it ourselves would add more immersion and a better feeling to it, people could manage it and protect it themselves, perhaps establish a government even. I'm attempting to do this myself, so far I've already road blocked a lot of areas in Chernogorsk and created ways were people can be lead towards where I can observe, protect and help them, this has proven to be effective for me and I've helped a lot of players already as well as started to encourage trade. Why don't we all start doing the same?
