Safe Zone Idea

I think this has potential in terms of how it will work. If fortifying a town slows down zombie spawn rate and decreases the zombie cap. I would also like to see way to disarm players without having to kill them. There are ways to add ways to make safe zones that don't feel artificial. I see nothing wrong with giving players tools to create practical safe zones.

I don't like the idea. There are no safe zones in a real apocalypse. Although I get my ass handed to me on the reg by bandits, I don't personally like the idea.

There has never been a real apocalypse... but in a lot of post apocolyptic movies and games there are safe zones. Here are a few examples, Metro 2033, The walking dead, dead island, Fallout 3, Day after tomorrow. These are all examples, although they do not all contain zombies, they are still within the apocalypse genre.

I agree.

Also, in a real apocalypse, not every 13 year old would be able to use a sniper rifle and sit in front of the safe zone waiting for people to shoot at and masturbate on it afterwards.

So why are people saying no to safe zones in this thread?

You'd basically do the same there as you do now at hot spots like airfields and supermarkets....no change in your gameplay guys, no worries ;)

There are no safe places in a zombie apocalypse, zombies don't care if you declare a town to be safe they'll still kill you in it.

Even if the towns were safe as said, snipers will have a field day, either that or toss lots and lots of frags over the walls.

Play another game if you want safe zones or just get less attached to your gear/life.

No, there aren't safe zones in apocalyptic movies. You're confusing what you are asking for(artificial safe zones) for what is ALREADY possible in DayZ- survivor established gathering areas that are only as safe as people make them.

You want a safe zone? Make one. Defend it yourself. Invite people to join you there. I don't care. Don't expect the game to do it for you.

I have yet to see a logical reason to why not. as well as why players who want to deviate from killing each other get flamed to a crisp.

The only safezones that should exist are player/community created ones, not ones hard coded into the game. What makes DayZ unique is its attempt to stay as realistic as possible. It is just as much a psycological thriller as it is a zombie apocalypse one.

If you want a safe zone, get a group of friends/survivors to secure an area on a server, maybe make a post about it to get more help, fortify it with barbed wire/sandbags, etc.

people are setting up trading co's etc without safezones, they are willing to adervtise thier location, and protect those entering who follow the rules(or at least try and protect) thats as safe as its getting,

we have a sandbox, some of us play dirty, some of us whine about wanting to play nice, and some people get off thier asses and do somthing about setting up a place to play nice

asking for safezones is the middle option

I was thinking of something along the lines of forceful disarm, as well as non-lethal weapons that allow you to detain players.(alt to killing bandits you detain them thus stoping them from being able to kill anyone, unless killed or released.)

Would be epic though, they can see the screen but can't move as you drag their corpse into the open field, fire your Lee Enfield next to him and run like the wind. Then watch the infected just obliterate his anus.

LOL can we get one thing straight at least? If your argument is that safe zones aren't realistic, you're not very aware. If your argument has really anything to do with realism you got lost somewhere along the way. Rocket said himself he doesn't like to use that word, so stop using it as the core of an argument. Dang nubs :) .

Also, if you're concerned about realism there are a lot more pressing issues than safe zones.

But you'll have those bandits sitting outside the Safe Zone picking off every survivor they can.

How about an instanced safe zone with not only one entry but more spread around the map ?
