Are zombies anything more than a nuisance?

Recommended Posts

I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm just asking what's the point for you of playing a zombie mod where the zombies don't affect you. If you're just pvping, then you're basically just playing a watered down version of the base game itself.

Umm I'll ask again then?

Is that his fault that zombies are like that? He didn't make them like that, he has nothing to say in that manner. The mod is a "watered down version of the base game" not what he's choosing to do.

Zombies are only a threat when combined with players..

Yesterday I didn't update to the current beta version since our server didn't update. (thanks hpb) By about 9 pm est it was me and 1 other person on our server. I cycled loot at Stary for an hour, then moved to the NWAF and cycled the hangars and barracks for 3 hours. I never took any measures to deal with zombie aggro other then shooting them with my gun.

400 zombie kills later I can safely say the zombies are no threat without players around as well. It's part of the reason why bandit's are needed. you can't throw smoke to attract all the local zombies and then a grenade to kill them all with other players around, giving away your position like that just gets you dead.

Part of it is the terrible AI with Arma2, AI is very predictable, and in this game even more so. The other part of it is the difficulty of the zombies is set so low (things like aggro range and damage given to players), set the difficulty higher new players get frustrated and stop playing, set it to low and once you get experienced with the very limited AI they have, they are no longer a threat.

IMO the zombies are just the backdrop for the murder simulator we call DayZ.

And again, I'll reply who said anything about "fault"?

I'm curious as to what the focus of the mod is, essentially. Why do players play it? What gameplay is the mod "modding" that is engaging to players, if the zeds themselves aren't a challenge?

Because this is an Alpha ... we are here to test and show the flaws.

Till it gets fixed, what else is there to do ? I love this game, the pvp is one of the best I have ever seen in my life of gaming (over 16 years) ... there are very very few games that make you sweat when you engage someone knowing that it's all or nothing. Take it or lose it.

I play Css otherwise ...

But it gets really booring. (I used to be in the top 10 Awp FR ladder back in college)

So by "you" you mean everyone? Okay I didn't catch that. It sounded like you were asking him "why play dayz if you don't care about zombies and just pvp, you could do that in the base game, if you're playing dayz you should fight zombies".

Well, we're testers. And our feedback on the pve aspect of the game is "it doesn't exist after you've played for few days".

I agree about CSS and other fps games.

But you yourself said the zombies are not a factor.

The pvp of the mod is the base game itself.

The zeds are probably pretty bad for the noobs, but nothing more than a nuicance for the experienced...

And a misfeature for easily detecting people in towns/cities. You cannot really use stealth while exploring the towns, every damn player around knows that you are there, which is ridiculous. It should be possible to stay hidden inside a town. This current misfeature just adds even more to players scoping around at the treelines near towns.

The zeds should be harder, but ONLY at north or military loot locations to make the game have more dynamic map area based difficulty, thus allowing the game to be playable for both noobs and pros.

Basically:

- For noobs: Stay at south coast / small towns where zeds are like they are at the moment. Learn the basics there. Don't just run off to the NWA/Stary/Crash sites/etc., there are both bandits and much more deadly zeds there

- For pros: Feel free to go to the military targets, but be prepared for massively more difficult (and numerous?) zeds. The suggestion about zeds that could hit you while running might do the trick. No more take a few steps back and shoot the hitting zed with ease tactic. You would actually have to shoot at them while they are charging at you from the distance. And making the mil zeds take several shots to the body due to armor, thus making headshots to them would be even more important. For extreme difficulty, those zeds might even start causing the leg breaks at the extra high probability they did have at the rather broken 1.7.1.something. Or something like that.

If these more difficult zeds would be only at specific locations, it would be totally up to the players to choose if the want to risk it with them. There would be no reason for anyone to complain that "They are too difficult!" - Just don't f***ing go the deadly zed zones if you can't handle them.

Exactly. It's testing. Where you ("you" as in players ;) ) provide feedback and pose hard questions.

If the zombie "hook" of the mod becomes largely pointless once you learn the mod, then what's the point of the mod? Because the pvp mechanics are the base game itself.

The appeal is that you have to collect things to survive and need to find a weapon and if you die you start over so firefights are pretty intense in dayz. But yeah, for a zombie game, there is hardly any shits given about the zombies. Or should I call them angry olympic runners with superhuman senses.

Well, CoD 4 was good ... but it just went down hill from there. If thay spent more time developing the games, it would probably be much better.

BF3 is "ok" ... however "close quarters" is total bs, trying to follow the steps of CoD.

Tents allow the accumulation of multiple sets of gear. At one point, I had tents stored in tents, so I could just reset myself completely if I died without ever having to go through the initial, defenseless stage.

If I died, I just ran through the forest to my stash, popped up the new tent and transferred the gear.

That's when I started asking myself what the point was.

Zombies are a huge problem for mi imo because they can now knock you out when you're below 9k blood. And trust me, when your knocked out like that, you're out for a WHILE. I nearly died once by that and actually did another time.

8.5k blood.

zombie hits me once

eats me alive and can't do shit about it

Well you still have to run. This is one of those pvp games where you actually don't want to die.

It was almost always still more time-efficient to run back to the stash for a full kit, then try to farm gear while defenseless.

And the base game has pvp where you die once and are out.

Modern Warfare 2 was my realm~

Though this should probably come back on topic now.

Zombies will be harder in the future, this is pretty much guaranteed. They are practically part of the background right now and I doubt Rocket wants it to stay that way.

I meant. You don't want to die cause you need to run to the camp if you do, while in other games you just respawn and continue as if nothing happened.

I just added an edit to the post you responded to. I'll repeat it here:

The base game has pvp where you die once and are out. That's not this mod inherently.

I reckon that Zombies in this game serve there purpose to an extent, but what i would really like is to see swarms of them, not just them hanging around towns and stuff, it'd be great imo since a single makarov clip wouldn't let you survive in cherno.

And i loved Mw2, did you use PC, Xbox or Ps3?

i made your text cyan,whatyougonnado?

For me, I would really enjoy this game if Zombies could only get killed by a bullet to the head ...

Even tho thay are just Infected, thay suffer the same cons & pros of Zombies, aka Body shots should not be acceptable as a way to kill them.

That alone will be a huge step forward for the difficulty, and necessety to avoid them at all cost.

And for veteran + expert servers, make it so that zombies can also run inside buildings ... as brainless as zombies are, thay should not be like all "oh this is a house, I should stop running once I get inside" ...

With only those 2 changes, my fear for zombies will be revived.

It will also reduce the amount of people killing eachother in towns, as shots will attract much harder to kill zombies.
