US 8 VA - Berezino fight, 7/20/12

Who engaged us tonight in US8 over in Berezino?

We decided to go heavy for fun, no silenced weapons, and the main squad of 6 (I was keeping an eye from an elevated position) moved in on the town from the south and cleared the first residential complex, hospital, and store. We lost two at that point - one had to log for work, another had family agro and logged as well. Another got banged up from walkers, and retreated to my overwatch position in the trees above the town. That left a small fireteam (call them Alpha 1,2, and 3) to move on to the northern side. I decided to switch tactics at this point (mistake) and enter the town as a second fireteam with the patched up buddy (Bravo 1&2) and rejoin Alpha as they moved through the northern residentals and stores. We moved through the southern side of Bere without much issue, though with a lot of noise as I was being fairly free with my m14 rounds. (another mistake)

We crossed from southern Bere to northern Bere under the cover of Alpha 3. As soon as we cleared the field however, we came under fire from the same hill we had just crossed. Both Alpha 3 and Bravo 2 took hits, with Bravo 2 KIA, and Alpha 3 busted up with a broken leg.. he crawled into the northern grocery store and holed up, while I ran across into the apartments and rejoined Alpha 2.. A few minutes later, we heard silenced rounds from real close ouside, and Alpha 1 (who was outside the whole time) ended up in a quickdraw with whoever it was. He got shots on with a FAL, but died to an m14 round. No idea if that guy was KIA or alt-f4, though we did hear what seemed to be multiple flies.

At this point, our other guy who logged earlier for work came back, and was almost immediately set on in the southern residential areas by sniper fire from the treeline. He snuck into a building only to be ambushed and killed by someone who was telling him over direct comms he was a friend. Kind of funny.

So our squad of 6 is now down to 3, with Bravo 2 combat ineffective inside the grocery store and Alpha 2 and Bravo 1 with limited visibility outside the apartment. Alpha 2 exits the apartment and saves some of the gear from Alpha 1, and then we both crawl over to the store and patch up Bravo 2. Egressed out to the east towards the lumber mill from there, moving house to house keeping careful eye to the south.

While the engagement didn't go our way, it was certainly a lot of fun. Salute to whoever it was. We went looking for trouble and found it. None of us hit alt-f4 when the sh*t hit the fan either!

Damned family aggro. Someone needs to fix the families aggro range, way to OP.
