jdk761@hotmail.com 8 Posted July 21, 2012 So, this is just a little story of what happened to myself and my friends the other night, not a whine or a rant (maybe a little bit of a rant). We set off as a group of 4, we had all been alive a while and had aquired a selection of mid to high rarity weapons, as well as building up a camp of 6 tents and 4 vehicles (3 stolen and 1 trashed as our camp was sacked after we logged, but thats not the point) after setting up and piling into our truck we set off for the northen airfield, going via a hospital and stocking up on enough medical supplies that we could just go nuts with the Zs up there and not worry about blood loss, leg breaks etc.Amazingly the NWAF was quiet and full of fresh loot, which suprised us as the server was reasonably busy (25~ people on) and so encouraged by our success there we set off for stary sobor for the military tents, high yield, high risk as we all know what the snipers are like in stary. But we were confident, there were 4 of us, all armed decently with large stocks of ammo, and one of our number with an M104 to cover us from the woods while the rest of us looted the tents. but of course being in a truck (the vs3) that is louder than the sound of the windows start up noise at 3am when everyone else in the house is asleep, taking the truck all the way in would give us away to anyone nearby in an instant. so after parking the truck back some way in a forest we set off towards the tents, moving cautiously in the hope of coming on anyone sniping from the hill from behind and to scout the tents for people. as we went, chatting away on TS, one of our number lost sight of us and fell back a little way, so the rest of us circled around trying to find them again. Then everything went to hell, one of our group of 3 still together spotted who they thought was our 4th, same clothing colour and same sunglasses (damn numbers of people in aviators!) he looked at them for a moment before suddenly announcing he had been shot down and in the confusion while we tried to figure out if it was friendly fire or confusion as we expected, the mystery 5th person gunned down the second of the people with me, and as i hunted desperately for them hoping to avenge my fallen comrades so we could salvage their gear, he opened fire on me as i tried to scope on him for the headshot, in retrospect, the m16 acog isnt great at close range with the scope ^^; luckilly before he could kill me i dashed sideways into a cluster of bushes and began frantically bandaging myself as i was bleeding in pain and at 3k blood, as well as shouting for our 4th to try to get a bead on us before the player spotted me and finished me off, as i had failed to bring painkillers and was unable to defend myself sufficiently at that point. And then, joy of joys our 4th announces she has the guy in her sights, and the other 3 of us all shout for her to blow him away, her first shot takes out his legs, crippling him, and then...that *insert string of profanity here* disconnects to avoid taking the death he so fairly deserved.now most of us at some time have D/Ced to escape, and we all have our rules in our heads about what point its ok to exit out after PVPing/aggroing, if it be when you're just starting and cant defend yourself or when you've eluded your persuers and hidden long enough to feel safe but not want to venture back out to the town/airfield/whatever you were exploring, but this is just the worst kind of abuse, picking a fight, finding you're not winning and escaping like a cowardBut the big thing from this story is my question: does anyone else find it really damn hard to tell who the hell each person is if you dont have their name showing up? jdk761@hotmail.com 8 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) thats not the moral of the story at all, if it werent for her shooting the guy we wouldnt have gotten any of our friends stuff off their bodies, also to 2nd post, who said anything about a shotgun? we had respectivly: me (m16 acog) her(ak74 kobra) sniper that would have covered us(m107) and other guy(some other gun that used stanag rounds idk what) Edited July 21, 2012 by DeepIndigo
Ujinty 9 Posted July 21, 2012 You left a guy with a shotgun to cover you from the woods...? Wat.He probably meant the M107.We have a girl that plays with us occassionally as well. She always lags behind and gets lost, constantly saying "I've lost you guys, wait up!"It's fucking annoying.Moral of the story : Don't have a girl in your group. The girl was the sniper, not the guy who got lost. The girl was in the best position, and was the only one who shot him. Moral of the story : Have a girl in your group.Yes, I have always found it difficult to tell people apart. I mean, people look different in real life. It shouldn't be that hard to tell people apart.

It shouldn't be that hard to tell people apart.yeah... i mean there's a certain ammount you can do with the face picker, they can always tell which ones me since i'm a zombie in shades, but still, just faces arent enough especially when somone's prone or facing away from youalso it was the girl that got lost, but it wasnt really lost so much as, there was a building between us and her (as it turned out) Edited July 21, 2012 by DeepIndigo
Stridsbulten 9 Posted July 21, 2012 Yeah, the lack of character customization and / or proper ID support can be dangerous. We have had problems with it as well, usually related to people combat logging into areas we have cleared and assumed safe. Like one time in one of the castles, I was covering the door while my friend moved to the roof checking for loot. Suddenly someone logs in behind him, he sees him as he turns but thinks its me because the guy looks very similar. Takes him a second or two to figure out it isnt me, by then the guy has opened up. Naturally, this is a situation that could never happen in a realistic scenario but that's just the way the game works.

She's up there with us, shooting them bandits all day long.

DarkRaven123 602 Posted July 21, 2012 Right, from what I read was this :We were in a group of 4, one of us got lost. We thought we saw our 4th, but they ended up shooting us.The way you have wrote it, it says to me the girl got lost and you were screaming for her to find you. Also, not sexist. Just my experiences with "girl" gamers.
jdk761@hotmail.com 8 Posted July 21, 2012 i was screaming for her to shoot the guy, which she did, and i'd like to point out when you can lose people just by them being on the other side of a couple of thick trees, a building, a wrecked car, over the crest of a hill, basicly anything that makes you lose sight of them, and when you have to stop moving fairly often to check your inventory, change guns, check your map, eat, drink or dance the fandango, losing sight of people for a few moments and needing to re-group isnt that much of an uncommon thing even among very experienced gamers.i should clarify, when i said lost, we're talking about 10-15 seconds and needing to pause to re-group, not somone has run off into the sunset in totally the opposite direction and cannot get themselves back to us. also, there's a difference between girls who play games and girl gamers, much like there's a difference between guys who play games and gamers. Josh225 129 Posted July 21, 2012 Moral of the story : Have a girl in your group.Unless you're my age (15) and naturally most of your friends are similar ages having a girl in the group doesn't go very well. At all.
