I imagine he used photoshop and cleaned the image up manually.

Yeah I did what "Grylsyjaeger" said.

I took the screen shot, went into Photoshop, then I used the "clone stamp tool" (<- I think that is what it's called, not sure though), and then manually removed the HUD.
