New loging out system and ALT + F4 insta-ban?

Recommended Posts

Getting disconnected from servers = Ban

Internet crashing? = Ban

Alt+F4 = Ban

You see, Alt+F4 exterminates the active process.

There's no "30 sec timer plz wait for process to take its time", since it's not ArmA that kills its own process, it's your operating system.

In other words, nothing can be done about Alt+F4'ing without punishing people with bad internet/hardware/etc.

As I understand it, there are three pieces to DayZ.

The client (that is what you have on your computer), the server (that is the host for the world that you play in), the hive (that is what keeps track of your progress).

The client talks to the server, the server talks to the hive and the client, and the hive just talks with the server.

If the client terminates connection with the server, then the server processes it out and notifies the hive. A server change that forces a 30 second wait will be unaffected by the client Alt-F4ing or any other means of terminating the cline-server relationship, because it is the server-hive relationship that

really matters.

EDIT: Also, Alt-F4 becoming an automatic ban is never going to happen. Legitmiate connection loss is too certain to be mistaken for Alt-F4ing to actually be implamented.

I thought about a similar system as others mentioned, but haven't seen this little tweak myself.

Not claiming this to be a new idéa though, I CBA to search simply to make a POST in a thread.

My background for this idéa is that I also have shitty internet that tendts to throw me off servers once in a while.

Upon logout, make a 5 second timer (I don't know if 5 is too much or not enough really, I just image a car race, where 5 seconds seems like allot. But too much time just leaves you a hanging ragdoll, and if someone cannot finish you in 5 seconds, then really?).

THAT LOOSES all aggro from Z'eds.

This should not be reversable, EG. No regretting and going back to the game, to avoid exploiting of the lose of z aggro. And if a player stumble upon you during those 5 seconds, well you picked the wrong place to log out.

If someone stumble upon me if i lose connection, odds are they already had the drop on me, or wont make it to kill you anyways, because they where just as surprised as you were. (this is where the seconds might need some tweaking?)

This way, if you lose connection inside a town, your safe from zombies.

I would personally not have a problem with loosing connection inside a town, with a timer on, as long as only humans could attack me in that state.

Because honestly, if someone can manage to kill me from i lose connection, to i finaly get a full dc, Odds are they could easly have killed me already anyway.

Yes loosing connection during PVP combat could happen, but does it really happen THAT often? My impression is that people do not like the timer because theres a good chance, that you are going to get mauled down by random zombies who get their shuffle interrupted by you laying face down in the dirt.

This is not perfect, and people will abuse it to avoid zombies, and if they die anyway, maybe even DC to give you some zombies to fight when they die (which happens anway). But I could not personally, care less if someone survived another day because he dc'ed right infront of a horde of 1000 zombies. But if you shot at me and then dc right after if you miss me, that really seems to get people worked up. And good luck with getting a zombie train, and then dc'ing them on someone elses ass, hopefully they won't wake up again.

Sorry about the long ramble and incoherence, I am very tired and not from an English speaking country :P But still saw my 2 cents of idéas to be worth mentioning.

I don't think 5 seconds is enough of a countdown, personally. I also don't think you should be invulnerable to zombies.

Yes, this will cause some players to die because they are in town. That said, I feel causalities of this nature are an acceptable price to pay; although, I can see your point.

I agree with you

But the problem is, IT was already implemented, and removed pretty quickly, I figure mostly because of duping, but also people logging in to a server and getting eaten by zombies, even though you do the *Connect - Get waiting for server response - Get "lost connection to host" message - Be dead* Shuffle. Which is honestly what i have to go through on the first 10 servers i attempt to log on, ofcause not the dying part, any more! Some could say I shouldn't log out where zombies can respawn, but then we are back to me getting thrown off the internet for a quick second.

5 seconds should be enough to kill anyone you have enganged with an upper hand. It would still be a flawed system. But it would be a huge improvement to most dcing, and still protecting people who ends up loosing connection.

I am all for a log out timer or having alt+f4 equal respawn and character death... But I am just passing time researching this because I got the gist that rocket was working on algorithms to track player behavior for warnings and then banning and hoping these will be solid enough to differentiate between exploiters and shitty internet. I have just watched my second shock hour glass fade out to instantly see the red letters no message received and losing connection again. I have not been near combat in an about hour, out in the woods minding my own business, just shitty internet. Fair? No, but the world is unfair. Deal breaker for this game? Quite possibly whether I like it or not if my shitty connection gets me banned from the hive for a poor reputation.
