Esoteric 2 Posted July 20, 2012 The average life expectancy has been rising a lot lately, from when I first joined of about 30mins to now 50mins.Could this be due to players getting better? Exploits being abused? Bugs being fixed? Game getting easier?I'm curious as to what everyone think the life expectancy will be when the game has been out for a much longer time. When I die, it's generally because I have no morphine at the time and get a broken bone, I just suicide. Then when I respawn, I play recklessly and attempt to get a few items from major cities before heading north again, however when I'm actually out, I survive for a couple days usually, the life I'm currently on is at day 2, I think I might actually try and really survive this time. Seems quite easy, I go into a market in an underpopulated city, take food/drinks, kill a few zombies and get out. What now?I have everything I need, no real interest in pvp, if I plan on surviving I think I'll keep my distance from the zombies(Wouldn't you?), I don't find going into the city a challenge or even remotely dangerous, perhaps fast zombies indoors might change this..But one trip to the market and I'm good for ages.In conclusion, I'm curious as to whats -your- estimated average life time and your personal best? Also, if you're one of those people that enjoy seeing how long you survive for, what do you do? is the game still fun for you?For those that think TL;DR: Get off the forums, lol. dkmintz 28 Posted July 20, 2012 Deliberately under-estimating id say my current character is around 14 or 15 hours, but prob a couple more. Iv had a few 3 or 4 hour sessions and a couple shorter ones, but its hard to tell. Iv got hunting gear, water bottles and the ability to cook raw meat so the only real reason i have to go into town is just for kicks or for medical supplies but i rarely need these. I dont know if its the way i play the game but i rarely seem to come into contact with other players.Im kinda losing the will to live now, cos im like, what now? I dont really want to start hunting down other players but tbh i understand why established players do, cos theres nothing else to do. I wouldnt mind hunting down some bandits though. Esoteric 2 Posted July 20, 2012 Yeah, likewise. My friends and I have several tents scattered around the map (on different servers too) full of weapons/tools etc, it's not like I've lost anything when I die.Recently went to a heli crash site, found an FN FAL, M107 and a PDW, I just took the PDW since we have 3-4 FN FALS at base and the M107 is useless imo (any sniper will get the job done). So gear is just.. meh why bother.I do however have fun when I decide to walk along the edge of the map looking for tent cities/vehicles, It's a thrill to get the vehicle back without knowing whatsoever where I am. Good stories are made then.. but now we have a few vehicles we don't really require any more.

DayZ had a huge increase in its playerbase, and i think it was during this time that people easily died, because so many people had to learn the game. Just a theory though. Might think differently about that gun when you run into my bandit group of 3 M107s
dkmintz 28 Posted July 20, 2012 Start helping people, if you don't feel like killing them :)I would, and i will offer help if i come across somebody as i can easily spare food and water, but with all the horror stories of ppl going on about offering help then getting shot in the back......why would i risk it

Im thinking gathering some in game buddies would be the next move just to hunt bandits and help survivors
arthur1265 (DayZ) 10 Posted July 20, 2012 it would be alot higher if people didnt keep killing themselves to get a better spawn point.. i wouldnt be surprised if it was up for maybe ~4 hours if it wasnt for that

Redshift 58 Posted July 20, 2012 Yea I am pretty sure Rocket has stated that it only counts players who have been alive for longer than 2 min.

captainwaffles 41 Posted July 20, 2012 the life expectancy is so high because whenever people are about to die or get shot they alt+F4 and have there friends patch them up
Ankhenaten 111 Posted July 20, 2012 I used to never live longer than a day. Now I am 3 days old. I know the map, I know the Zeds, I know the buildings, I know more bugs and that I kill on sight. Before I was sniped at, shot in the back, zeds were ripping me apart etc. I don't even leave the south now without morphine. I avoid the NW airfield, Cherno, Elektro only at night etc. I start taking silly risks though as I am bored. NE airfield gutting an animal on the runway etc .. :D
jay.pis 32 Posted July 20, 2012 Probably due to more players grouping up instead of flying solo.
Esoteric 2 Posted July 21, 2012 I can't see helping people to be any fun, I could leave a tent in the middle of cherno with items in it.. it would help people more than me going around and doing it, still no fun though lol. Also about the M107, I already said I don't go out specifically looking to pvp and it's useless for zombies. If your bandit group were on my server and I found you guys, I can imagine it would be fun, but I'd rather just play Call of Duty.
