devilsdealer 13 Posted July 20, 2012 So after a few weeks my clan and I have become hooked on the brutal world of dayz. However we need to find a permanent home.I would like to rent a server, but have a few reservations after past game server rentals.I already have a full time job, I dont need another one.1.Seems like there is updates often, Do you as a renter have to handle these or does the provider handle it?2. Are the logs readable without a degree in computer code? Are they easily accesible?3. If disaster hits and a hacker nukes your server, how hard is it to get the instance repaired?4. I didn't see a rule regarding this so I apoligise if not allowed. Any feedback on vilayerservers? the price seems right, It apears to have weekend support. Depends on the provider, in 99% of the cases, you as a renter must handle it.2. The logs are not readable for someone not familiar with ArmA2 and how scripts work in the game.3. All you can really do, is restart the server and hope he dont come back4. Cant say, i use my own server racks to host my game servers. devilsdealer 13 Posted July 20, 2012 Thanks for the quick reply. One last thing, as it seems I will be responsible for the updates. Is it a easy task, or a royal PIA?
RitterOhnePferd 1 Posted July 20, 2012 Just in case you didnt knew that yet: Vilayer is providing you with an Update Button. They will prepare the whole update for you, and you just have to log in the web panel and click one button. Dont know which other hosters provide a similar service, but guess a few might do so. walkerbait421 19 Posted July 20, 2012 To add... HFB also has a simple update button and they are pretty quick about getting updates on, usually within an hour or so of being available. I think all the hosts do this (for slotted servers... not for dedicated, where you must do everything yourself).Logs are really hard to a) download, B) view and c) understand. After about a month I am getting the hang of it but you should know most hacks are not logged at all as they bypass battleye. Only the blatant old-news hacks and obvious stuff are really logged, and then you need to dig deep to get to the proof. I've given up on that, its just way too much work. I also agree the best bet when you find a hacker is to restart the server (with a warning of course so legit players can save/disconnect first) and they usually go on to the next one. Nametags also help, we started doing that with all players ready to fraps anything fishy, so we can get easier/quicker proof than the logs.
Chauz 166 Posted July 20, 2012 No problem, they were pretty fast setting up my server. But I remember they said they setup each server themself so it might take a bit longer then a automated service, just so you know :)
