Weapons Overhaul

Recommended Posts

Hello all. After playing the DayZ mod for quite a while, I decided the weapons could use a little work. Now, to make this clear, this is not another one of those, "OMG teh gunz need to be ficksed!!!1!!" threads. I am just putting in some suggestions. I don't know about everyone else, but since I am a gun nut (or any weapons, really) this is a big part of gameplay for me. Now onto the suggestions.

SKS

This is something I would like to see implemented. It is a very common surplus rifle, firing the same rounds as the AK-47 and AKM, the 7.62x39. The standard version of it feeds from 10 round stripper clips. The SKS-M takes standard 7.62x39 AK mags, which is the version I would like to see implemented. It could replace the spawn of some military weapons, such as the AKM.

My idea is inspired by another thread on here that will be credited at the end of this post.

Features:

- Semi automatic.

- Shares magazines with the AKM.

- 2 shots to center mass to kill zombies.

- Moderately loud.

- Can come with Kobra sight on it, although very rarely.

Ruger 10/22

This is a weapon that NEEDS to be implemented more than any other weapons. It is one of the most common types of firearms in the world. It is a semi automatic .22lr rifle. .22's are known for cheap rifles, ammunition, very low recoil, and very low noise. The ammo for these can be purchased for as cheap as $15 for a box of 500+ rounds. These guns come standard with a 10 round magazine, but 25+ round magazines are common for them. They are very deadly, contrary to popular belief, due to the fact that when the bullet enters the body, it does not have enough energy to go out the other side. Due to that, it bounces around and basically liquefies the internal organs of the target. There are stories of people being shot in the chest with one and having the bullet exit out of their thigh due to the, "bouncing".

Features:

- Semi automatic

- 10 or 25 round magazines.

- Very common ammo, found in 500 round boxes, that take up 2 inventory spaces each.

- 1 shot to head to kill, 2 to chest.

.357 Magnum/.38 Special Revolver.

One very common weapon. Found everywhere from insurgents in the middle east, to police all over the world, to the Russian military in the form of the MP-412. They were and still are very popular for police to have, because of the fact that they will kill very easily, and depending on what load you use, can have low recoil. They usually hold 6 rounds, although can have more or less depending on the model. Now, due to the fact that I am generalizing, all the information given here may not be 100% accurate.

Features

- Double action, or single action, depending on model.

- 6 round capacity

- Moderately common ammo, found in 20 round boxes that take one inventory space.

- 1 shot to head to kill, 2 to chest.

Mosin Nagant M91/30

This is also one of the most common weapons in the world, alongside the AK-47, the .22lr, and the .357. This is a bolt-action Russian WW2 rifle, firing the 7.62x54r round, which is very similar in size and power to what the Lee Enfield fires, while being far more common. It is nearly double the size of the 7.62x39. This weapon was mass produced so much, to the point that the Soviet Union didn't and doesn't know how many they made. It has a manual safety (that is a PITA to use), and no decocking mechanism. This rifle is HUGE, measuring in at 45.8 inches long. It has a 5 round internal magazine, fed from stripper clips. I think this rifle is what should replace the Lee Enfield in game.

Features:

- Bolt Action

- 5 round capacity, fed by 5 round stripper clips.

- Ammo just as common as the Lee Enfield, found in same quantities.

- Same damage values as Lee Enfield.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you all take these into consideration and support these ideas.

Nice. Yes more weapons would be welcome. But no 500 round mags/ammoboxes please

To be fair, he didn't say 500 round mags lol. But I agree, to commonly find 500 rounds for a weapon that is as good as the current M16 ingame would be slightly too much

Hell yes to more weapons, needs way more even if they overlap their use

More weapons means more ammo types means harder to find the ammo you are looking for means harder game overall means I like your idea means here's my beans.

Okay, I've made a few mistakes in my post. To clarify, The 10/22 DOES NOT have 500 round magazines. The rounds for it simply come in bricks of 500, and it is very uncommon to see .22lr sold in any other way. Plus I have some more things I will add later today.

I was just thinking of making a new thread to suggest replacing the Lee Enfield with the Mosin Nagant and then I found this. I actually made this account to suggest it. It's so much more realistic that the Mosin Nagant be the loud, powerful, slow, early-game weapon instead of the Enfield. I'm really not entirely sure why the Enfield is in the game at all; it's a British weapon. And obviously as you stated above, the Mosin Nagant was originally made (and mass-produced) in Russia. I've seen estimates of around 17 million made in Russia from 1891 onwards which is reason enough to include it. It's common. Plus, it's Russian!

Of course, I'm sure some would complain about the halved magazine size. But those round are damn powerful. I own two Nagants and I know the weapon and its history. I just think it feels 'right' for them to be in DayZ. Anyways, you have my beans. Tally-ho.
