Idea: Chernarus, the quarantine zone

Recommended Posts

Me and my buddies were discussing features that would make DayZ more interesting beyond sniping noobs in Cherno. One of the ideas we came up with was that we'd like to see some form of military presence in Chernarus.

Perhaps instead of a global zombie apocalypse, the infection is contained to Chernarus? Russian army units have blockaded the region by land, US Marine and Naval forces at sea. They shoot survivors and infected alike on sight.

The USMC could be HQ'd at the USS Khe Sanh with destroyer escorts and present in force on Skalisty Island; the Russians somewhere in the northwest (Skalka?). The NWAF could be a CDF (chernarus defense forces) holdout. All of the borders outposts would be manned and supported by armor and air units.

Any military camp in the interior of the map would no longer spawn high end Russian or American weapons, instead, only low end military loot would spawn. All of these camps would be Chernarus Defence Forces holdouts, and lightly manned. Here you could get AKMs, PKMs, Dragunovs, etc. If you want the high end weapons, you would need to muster players to attack a Russian or Marine camp on the border, and these would be much more heavily guarded and equipped.

Have occasional patrols or raids from the USMC and Spetznaz by air or land. Perhaps the land convoys would raid the towns on the edge of the map, destroying everything in sight; and the airborne patrols would range further inland, killing any survivor foolish enough not to get hidden when he hears the sound of rotors.

If I could figure out how to edit Day Z for my own personal scenario I would have already been working on this, but it doesn't show up in the ARMA 2 editor.

Just an idea.

Heh well, we already play the part of the Russian Force due to us being the CQF and we do call ourselves the Chernarus Quarantine Force.

I like the idea of it being impossible to leave the map without invisi-walls...

When I first saw this thread it thought it was another pansy wanting safe zones and places where they won't get killed.

Good idea and I +1 this!

I have to say, I absolutely hate the idea of having Chernarus the only infected zone while the rest of the world goes on completely fine.

The entire atmosphere is based around the fact that the entire world is fucked and dead - You are one of mankind's last survivors.. if you simply turn Chernarus into an infected zone while the rest of the world is fine it completely ruins the post apocalyptic feel.

How so? Nothing would change besides the addition of hostile military NPCs and rearranging some loot tables.
