How To Increase FPS/Smooth Out The Game

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm trying it in my OA launcher options in Steam, so it now looks like

-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=H:\@Dayz -nosplash

Where H: is my Ram Drive, yours might be different.

I haven't noticed any amazing differences so far but my PC is pretty old and been having lots of trouble with DayZ+OA Betas lately anyway.

Thanks to March1 for the info though :) I'll keep trying

There shouldn't be -mod in front of it. The way I originally had it was for the target line through shortcut icons.

how exactly do you do this with steam? the comments are poorly worded and i dont understand :P

THere doesnt seem to be any way to do ramdisk with steam, that would be reasonable.

It's very easy.

Download LinkShellExtension, either 32-bit or 64-bit, whatever your operating system is and install. Restart when pormpted.

Once installed make a backup folder then take the @DayZ folder from the ArmA 2: OA install folder and put it inside the RamDisk.

Right click drag the @DayZ folder back into the ArmA 2: OA install folder.

Next let go of right click and select Drop Here and then choose SymbolicLink

Add -mod @DayZ to the end of the shortcut parameters (no need to point it to the RamDisk) and enjoy DayZ with your RamDisk!

ETA 2: I made a guide using the method so if anybody wants to try this click on the link Tweaking Tips in my signature.

ETA: I had to adjust the links. I think you guys crashed that poor man's website.....

Yes you can do this with any file. I recommend just doing it with the .pbo files from the common folder. ArmA pulls a lot from the hard drive so this is an excellent tweak to speed things up. Just remember that this takes up your RAM, so make sure you leave enough or it will start being a burden on your system. I would recommend having no less than 8gig if you do that. Be sure you make a backup folder and copy the files into that before you move them over to the RamDrive. Just make sure you make the symbolic links in the Common folder and not your backup. Also whenever there is an update you will need to delete the files in both the RamDisk and the Symbolic links then move the .pbo files back from the backup folder into the Common directory before you do the update, then start again.

thnx im fully setup now.

Just one minor thing. Have bein testing and entered servers like 10 times today to check my fps.

on one of tries after 1 min of gameplay was kicked by battleeye says something like - external scripts not allowed. I reentered again and didnt got such message again.

Do you think it is possible to get ban by misstake using RamDisk and LinkShell?

Maybe if you use anything else besides the .pbo's. So don't move anything else. ArmA 2 players have been using ramdisk's for years (including myself) with no problems. So just stick with the .pbo's and you should be fine.

I keep getting this error: File C:/Users/Brad/Documents/ArmA 2/ ArmaA2OA.cfg, line 17: '.': '(' encountered instead of'='

I have no idea what this means and if someone does that would be very helpful because if I try to launch DayZ through Six I always get that error.

Edit: Ok now my problem is that no matter what way I launch arma I always get the same Sh**ty error so I just fu**ed up my game for good and have no way of fixing it.

I have the same problem. How did you fix it?

If I am running the game via DayZ Commander and not using a shortcut will it still work by using the LinkShell? Just make the RAMDisk put the @Dayz file in it then put the link in the normal directory? That will still make the mod launch using the files off the RAMDisk?

I just tested. RAMDISK and LinkShell working for anything. DayZ 6launcher commander Fallout 12345 farcry. anything. anything u wana speedup it works, even if u do it only with some parts of a game. like few files. its creating like shells of files that pointing to ram. you dont even need a shortcut on desktop like in the video if you using LinkShell.

just need to be carefull att very first start of ramdisc. your files can be lost from ram after restart if you dont setup discimage correctly. but if you do it correctly everything will be tip-top.

And if you create RamDisk more then 1 gig, I recommend save discimage manually by pressing save image button after u done changes in ramdisc. instead of pricking - save when turn off computer, and load when windows starts. because it takes much longer to turn off or start computer. because it take time to save and load insides of your ramdisk to real harddisk.

I suck att explaining. Hope you understend what I ment xD

Will I be able to get to 30-40 fps?

My specs:

Pentium® Dual-Core 2.10GHz

Geforce GT220m

4Gb

So far i've been doing some tweaks, now i get around 20 fps. But it is not enjoyable...

Help? any commands? any tweaks?

Thank you for the idea but I didn't notice any frame rate increases and I actually took longer to load in.

I have an:

i7 860 stock

16gb ddr 3 1600mhz ram

2tb Western Digital 64mb cache / 3 gb/s

Radeon 6870

I run between 30 and 60'ish fps on average and I stayed in that range. The loading time did increase by a minute or so.

I made a 1.6gb ram drive and filled it with

the DayZ folder

chernarus.pbo

chernarus_data.pbo

chernarus_data_layers.pbo

structures.pbo

Then I deleted the source files, after that I used link shell to create links between where the files should actually be and the ram drive. I wish this would have benefited me, it seemed like a neat trick that actually makes sense.

Hey, so I am confused as to how you include the dayz folder loaded with RAMDisk into the launch sequence. What are the required steps for linking the two?

when using linkshell + ramdisk which files do you move?

are the files in "\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\Addons" the correct ones?

Nothing works. I can't combine it into the launch sequence, and for some reason the DayZ mod doesn't download into the Operation Arrowhead folder, It downloads to a user data folder in documents. I've tried quite of number of different ways, but nothing seems to work.

It won't let me install it,

It says that I can repair it or uninstall it and I've tried to repair it but it still won't work
