Server set-up eta, VPS vs. managed? What are the differences?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am looking to obtain a server to play DayZ with. I came across many however I am leaning towards Host Altitude. I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences with ETA's until your server(s) were up and running. Also I was hoping to find out what to expect performance wise, ping and load times, on a managed vs. VPS from said provider. I have searched high and low and what posts I found through google for dayz forums says "file not found" so I'm looking to gain some traction with this new thread.

thanks,

Mike

Hey mjethier,

I can't vouch for their VPS / shared environments but I have a dedicated server with them.

  • Setup time is long. Expect to wait 3-7 days until the server is opperational.
  • Prices are very competative.
  • Support can be slow, as the DayZ branch of the company is very small (1 person?)
  • The hardware is legit, and will run as you expect it to.

They're a fine company in terms of dedicated machines, just not very experienced in hosting DayZ servers IMO.
