Persistent caches and tent mechanics

Recommended Posts

There should be a way to create little hidden supply caches. Other players would be able to find them and loot them of course, but they wouldn't be as large as tents, or as conspicuous. So maybe they'd store about as much as a coyote patrol pack, just enough to stash some food, water, or ammo.

The other thing about them - they should be persistent in a server, across deaths.

Should tents be persistent as well? I feel like they should, or at least the timeout should be increased. I've been putting every free minute into playing this game but I don't always have time to get all the way across the map. It'd be nice to be able to die on a Sunday, not play until the following Friday, and know that my tent will still be there (although it may have been looted :( by other players.)

I agree with this.

Or at the very least one should be able to lay down some of his gear when going on a raid of a potential source of loot without worrying about that gear de-spawning for at least an hour.

For example, I see a couple of barns that I want to check out for loot. I already have a full load of inventory so I find a good secluded spot (or so I hope) and drop all my water, beans and since it is day time I drop my flares, chemlights, flashlight etc. I then raid the barns, find some loot and return to my hidden cache where I take stock of everything and decide what to keep.

This is actually more realistic than the current system, because in the real world one would not likely take everything he owns into such a situation, if for no other reason than to lower his weight so as to make a quick getaway easier, if needed.

So at the very least: make dropped gear persistent for at least an hour after it has been laid down.

Even better: make dropped gear persistent for at least 2 hours including death and respawn of the player.

Best: make dropped gear persistent for ~24 hours including the death and respawn of the player.

Too much complicated options, a backpack is already sman enough so making then persistent and server swappable with your char, should be enough. if you put your bag behind a tree no one will find.

Another interesting feature is allowing the smallers bags to be put (empty of course), like they were rolled and tucked up, inside your big bag, this way you use it as a persistent stash hideen behind a tree.

For others purpposes the tents do the trick.
