Egi 5 Posted July 19, 2012 Couple of suggestions and notes about making fire and survival.Making Fire:The possibility to make fire is too scarce. The matches are very rare thng in the game. This could be a design intention of game balance vs. realism but I think that at least the most obvious ways of making fire should be implemented in the game. These would make more immerse survival experience.Obvious:Road flaresFlares burn with very hot flame and can be used to start a fire. The flare is used up in the process.Smoke grenadesSmoke grenades generate intense heat when activated. Even after use the casings are very hot. The grenade is used in the process and generates the usual smoke screen. Maybe with toolbox you could dismantle the grenade and activate the fire without the smoke screen.Possible:ShotgunsOpening a shell casing and removing some pellets, then stuffing a cloth inside the casing. Fire to the ground and you have a burning piece of cloth. This could require a hunting knife or toolbox to open up casings. This method is not foolproof, generates noise and could take couple of attempts.ScopesRiflescopes could be used as magnifying glass in sunny weather to start fire. You could dismantle the scope to get a magnifying glass with toolbox, This method works only at broad daylight, takes time and destroys the scope. The possibility to make fire should depend on weather. It should be hard while raining, challenging after the rain, normal in dry conditions and easy after long period of sunny days. The amount of matches shold be finite. Each attempt to light a fire should use up a random amout of matches depending on weather and luck.Gathering Fuel:The survivor should be able to collect branches and sticks inside woods without the hatchet. This would take a longer time to collect and maybe several attempts to succeed. The burning time of branches could also be shorter. The use of hatchet should generate noise. The sound of chopping wood can be heard about 400 meters away. Trees also generate a rushing breaking sound when falling. Fuel from 20 litre jerry cans should be used as an alternative to fuel fireplaces. Car tires could be also used as fuel aso but they generate a lot of black smoke and makes open fire food preparation impossible.
umandez 139 Posted July 19, 2012 Some good ideas but won't be possible at the stage of the development i would think.
gutzdorf 29 Posted July 19, 2012 The only one of those that I can see ever being implemented is the road flare fire starting.Saying that though, matches really aren't rare at all. You just need to look in the right places.
