Sounds triggered in forest

Recommended Posts

I've thought of this recently;

Everyone should have already noted that there are some loud noises in the forest, like birds flying to the sky or branch of trees being broken.

Everytime I hear one of those sounds, I start to believe there is someone or something around me that triggered them (which would likely be the case IRL) and I feel some paranoia and adrenaline (which is great), then realize once again this is randomly generated by the engine of Arma 2.

That's why I was wondering wouldn't it be a great idea to implement a system (should be very simple with the actual editor) that would also trigger those sounds when people are actually in the area?

For example, let's say the bunch of trees near NW Airfield, when someone enter this area, there should be a % of chance that the birds get afraid and fly away - thus making a lot of noise - and also a possibility of a small tree or branch being broken.

Yes, that would unfortunately reveal the position of the guilty, but it would also be more realistic and fun since there is always a chance of making unexpected noise IRL, especially when running (so that could be the balance). Needless to say it would only be heard from a certain radius around the area.

What do you think?
