Starting Off

Recommended Posts

I have recently just bought ARMA for day-z and I am loving the game so far.

Thanks to a patch we now start out with no weapons, what's the best way to start off a new character? Do I go for the hills or some built up areas to get equipment? I haven't been able to find a gun yet /:

So if you got killed now, how would you start off a new character?

I have yet to go more than 10 minutes without finding a hatchet, no matter where I've spawned. Once I've got a hatchet and any beans/cokes I can grab, I get the hell out of the coastal region and head out to smaller towns to get a bit better situated.

From the coast head to the hills. Either North if you start on the South coast or West if you start on the east coast.

Look for barns or deer stands to get a weapon. It's much much safer than trying to go to Electro or Cherno for a weapon in my opinion.

So... new character can be stareted by button Respan -> Disconnect and than Connect... and it should respawn you somewhere near to coast :)

Well what will you do at beginning is up to you... because the bigger city is the bigger is risk/reward.

If you want a really good equip to start with i would recommend you go to bigger city and try look for at least basic pistol food drink and maybe some tools alike hatchet map and box of matches.... !!!

I would sprint. When you spawn fresh. You really have nothing to lose. I like to get back in the game ASAP, even if it means getting shot a couple times. Remember to look at your bottom right corner of the screen when you spawn. It`ll give you your location. If you want to use an external map such as Dayzdb.com it`s a great place to get your bearings after you've figured out your location.

You've got a few choices when you spawn. Running straight for the hills will yield you north most likely. There are small towns/outposts/deer stands you can find equipment at. Your first order of business would be finding a weapon. Even something such as a hatchet is good since you need a hatchet for tree cutting later anyways. Then finding food/drinks is next. Make sure to pick up watches, maps, compasses, and such for your toolbelt on the way since they don't take up your regular inventory space. In the larger towns such as Elektor, Cherno, Berezino, Stary, etc. Shoot on sight. It's a big place to loot and there are always people looting the high traffic areas. They will shoot you on sight.

Deer stands, military tents, and barns are good places to find weapons. Deer stands are scattered everywhere and are the safest to get loot from. Not always the easiest though. Barns will usually net you a double barrel shotty or a Winchester. Good starting weapons.

Supermarkets in the larger towns will always spawn something you need. Whether it be a gun, larger backpack, or other supplies.

If your feeling brave and want to get tooled up quickly with the basics (tent, matches, hunting knife, shotgun, side arm ect.) head straight into cherno or Electro and kit yourself out. Theres a good chance you'll get shot but when you've just spawned what've you got to lose?

So if you got killed now, how would you start off a new character?

On the "You Are Dead" screen, press ESC to open the menu.

RESPAWN -> DISCONNECT then in the lobby, CONNECT again.

I always recomend avoiding the cities whenever possible. The ONLY thing you can get (easily) there that you cant get anywhere else with less douche around is the medical supplies such as morphine and epipens. Hit up a few of the small outlying villages and head inwards soon as you have a soda, can of beans, and at least a hatchet. The rest you can find as you head up north.

In my opinion, the no makarov thing sucks. But if theyre going for realism, not many people randomly carry a gun around do they :)
