Beginning of beta?

I've heard through player word-of-mouth that there will possibly be a hive-wide character wipe in preparation for beta either next week or the week after. It would be a good time for it, seeing as everyone is pretty much duping everything (killed atleast 3 people in cherno yesterday and today with AS50's). Anyone know when this is happening or have any further info? Fingers crossed it's happening soon. I'll forego my gear as long as everyone else does :P

He has said nothing about beta so I don't think its true. I would assume he will give us some idea of when beta will start once he feels its ready.

A wipe, maybe.

But Beta?

Beta means the game is feature complete (as in, no more mechanics get added) and entering final testing, debugging and optimization mode.

This game is at least a year away from Beta.

Maybe that person misunderstood the transfer of many characters to the new database system.

Okay, but 1.8 apparently will be wiping the characters. And no I highly doubt beta is a year away, I think version 2 will be beta. All that has to be added afaik are packs of dogs.

The game has no map (Chermarus is a temporary placeholder). It's not even on the engine it's going to use. What about underground bunkers, player fortifications, squad mechanics, communication/radios, humanity system?

Honestly it's not even technically in Alpha yet if you want to be nit picky about it. If I had to label it, we're still in the concept & prototype phase. Pre-Alpha if you will.

Beta. At least a year. Mark your calendar and bookmark this thread.

DayZ as a mod of Arma2 will never leave alpha. They're going to continually add new features, experiments and generally fuck things up so that they don't have to do all those things again when the game goes standalone.
