Story Inclusion

I read an interview that Rocket did with Pc gamer stating that he would like to implement some sort of story. I think the best way to do so would be to give randomized objectives, and reward players who fullfill them with randomized stories that give background to their characters. The way I picture it is everytime you spawn a new character you get a random objective like After X days, Reach location Y, With object Z. Every player will obviously be able to completely ignore these objective or may not even notice them, but the few that follow it through will be able to get a piece of flair story that not only adds depth to their character but to the world in general. In order for this mechanic to fit into the world i feel it would be important that A. the objectives are given in such a way that it doesn't feel forced on the player (ie. an object in the starting inventory that both gives the objective and is useful. example: a box of chocolates shaped in a heart which can be eaten but also has a note which reads: meet me in cherno corner bistro next to city hall on friday.), and B. the story is general enough to allow it to fit any play style. (ie. a story about a family being killed during the apocalypse could be applied to both a character living in the woods fending for himself and a psychopath hunting down innocents since they both gave up on humanity.)
