Fishing. food/supplies.

Recommended Posts

The idea comes from my all time favorite game, GTA SA MP. It's a modded version of GTA San Andreas where you'd be able to roam free over the whole world, shoot players. take on different roles like weapons merchant, drugdealer, rapist, and fisherman aswell as many more. the game allows you to fly/drive/and use boats aswell as interact with houses npcs and players.

this looks very similair to dayz, however my favortite feature was fishing.

In GTA SA MP fishing was done from a boat, you'd get on a boat and pressed a button wich made u fish. now since the game is rather old you didn't throw out a fishing rod or whatever, it was done through chat. so when u pressed your button, it would give a message saying:

You caught a 14.7 pound pike

You caught a dead body

You caught a car tire

you caught 50 grams of drugs

you caught a weapon box. u recieved an ak

you caught a sunken treasure and recieved $50.000

etc etc.

I'd love to see this future in dayz, the way the fishing should be scripted. wether visual and useage of a rod, or through chat when near a river/pond or the ocean is upto the dayz staff.

things i would love to see while fishing in dayz.

Add an item for the toolbelt called fishing rod.

several fish that u can cook up for food. (reasonable chance for contagious fish who cant be eaten)

small chanced to find items, such as beans, cans of drinks, tools, a car tire etc.

And a very rare chance of fishing up a dead body.

This dead body could contain loot a player has. not a full inventory offcourse. but a "Lootpile" like some food med supplies, a gun primary or secondary, some ammo. maybe a backpack. u name it.

to avoid players just fishing all day and stocking up on gear. besides the fish, the item drops should be really rare. mostly you'll just catch tin cans and crap.

Odds of finding anything il leave up to the staff again. Im not that great with numbers.

Let me know what u guys think!

sounds wow-ish to me but ...it could work. Keep in mind however that every sniper in game will now start turning their focus to watering holes .....a brotha just wants to fill his canteen. :D

U can related everything to WoW, but it has nothing to do with it. The idea came from playing GTA San Andreas Multiplayer. for me it added a fun thing to do and a way to get back into the game after u died. and still be able to avoid big citys

I'd rather get a rod, sit on a dock (which is very dangerous due to the open environment and the aggressive playerbase) and fish.

Most attempts would be nothing, or you might catch a tin can.

Rarely you'd catch a fish, which when cooked would act like 1 piece of meat.

This would need to be balanced, so fishing would take roughly 1 minute (able to be cancelled incase of an attack) and the chances of catching a fish should be low, like 2.5%, tin cans and whiskey boots like 11% each and maybe some random junk thrown in to fill in the rest with a general 50% chance to get nothing. Maybe more for nothing.

But the fish would still require a hatchet to get wood (or just the wood) and matches to light a fire to cook said fish. It wouldn't replace hunting due to the dangers of fishing. Also, instead of a low chance of catching fish, it could just be a lower chance each time after you catch a fish, reset after 30 minutes or so. That way you could quickly catch 1 fish, but take longer and longer to catch another unless you waited for awhile (so you don't scare off the fish?)

Just my thoughts.

This is a great idea, the only problem I have is that if you look at a map of Chernarus there are not very many lakes/water holes. The ones that it does have are mostly out in the open where there are snipers and players around. Also this seems kind of like the hunting aspect of the game. I think I would rather prefer to hunt animals and get 8 meat off of them than fish and rarely get something.

Just my 2 cents! :)

My post in other fishing thread: Well think about it. Having a fishing rod will take up inventory space, I'm pretty sure its not something that goes to toolbar like hunting knife, hatchet and matches. Do I want to sacrifice inventory slots if I can already hunt down animals easy? No. Don't get me wrong, I don't really have much againts fishing, I'm just saying I wouldn't use it. Maybe this could be a feature later when everything else is done.

Yes! Omega 3 is a staple dieatery need, and fish is full of it.

Also, I'd like The Thing to stalk at least one of the ponds!
