Orange Icon on map labelled "Man"

I was just heading to a deer stand on a server which showed my location on my map. I set a waypoint and set off. When I got closer I checked my map and there was an orange icon with a point on it labelled "Man" a bit like this <O

Was that another player? Why was he showing up on the map? I scouted the area but couldnt find anyone and the icon disappeared from the map.

It normally is just a Zombie as their AI.

it was either a zombie or a dead one, some servers have player/npcs set to appear on the map.

An orange dot is (usually) a zombie registering as an "unknown man" on the map. The orange dot would usually show up on your map in regular ARMA 2 when you spotted someone but couldn't identify them as enemy or friendly.

A blue dot is a survivor. And if there's more than the one you are on the map...

Someone's gonna be having a bad time.

So if I was playing on this server is there a chance I'd appear on peoples maps without them seeing me?

if someone can see you, your on thier map

they might not actually see you but the game registers you as visible so pings you on the map

I have no idea why any admin ever enables this.

Waypoints I can forgive but map icons are so broken right now it's silly.

I once stole someone's jeep because I opened my map and there was a mysterious blue rectangle 1000m behind me that I had apparently passed without realizing it.

I went back, and sure enough there was a jeep tucked in between two trees.

its sopecuific servers with the map function enabled, usually it just operates on a line of sight basis

o = the Z/player <=the direction of travel

so <o is someone heading left, o> headinr right etc etc

its a lame function to have enabled, worst was a server when the peripheral vision blobs (the white orbs at edge of screen alerting you to somthing just outside of vision worked constantly, a Z infornt had a big white blob marker on it, spot a small white orb through a hill just sit there a second if it moves really fast its a bunny, green blob? player get ya guns out .... when i spotted my friend from 300 meters away through a hill as he ran over to meet me we decided it was time to find an different server

getting near a town was rediculous, the hillside between you and it glowing lit up by lots of little white Z dots letting you know someones there before even getting in sight of the town ... luckily that server no longer exists

I was in a server just like that about two days ago Stuffnthings. It was rediculous. I don't mind the periphreal dots so much when they are just on the sde of your screen and only show up in a small radius around you, but even then I don't mind servers without them. But this server had them turned on to a crazy extreme. Showed dots a good half mile or more away, even straight ahead of me and through hills, and once something got on screen the dots stayed there so you couldnt hide in a bush anymore.

Any time there is any orange icon like that, it can say Man, Sniper, anything, it's UNCONFIRMED.

What that means is you have not seen it yet. It only happens on servers with the map radar on.

All it means is the Player, Zombie, or whatever, has not been seen by you and confirmed. Once you go look at it, you will see it turn into w/e it is, civilian for zombie, survivor or sniper or whatever based on their skin for a player.

Hmmm...I don't like it. It seems completely out of place to me. Experienced it on a server last night and then again this evening.
