BlackAlpha 12 Posted April 28, 2012 Let's agree on some common, yet simple guidelines, so that we, the civilized survivors, do not end up shooting each other needlessly. Some of these rules come from our old everyday lives because they make sense even in this new apocalyptic world. The point of these guidelines is to make it better known to other survivors what your INITIAL intention is: i.e. shoot or not to shoot, for that is the question we all have when meeting other survivors. These rules will help us to make that decision with little effort. The rules are minimized and grouped in a cohesive manner, so that we can memorize and look them up easily.Note that these rules only help with the initial contact, they do NOT protect you from getting stabbed in the back later on. To avoid betrayal, rules won't help, you must trust your instincts and your gut.If you have any suggestions, please post them below! But note that we must keep things simple because not all of us are lawyers who can memorize whole text books! If you agree with these rules, say so below! The survivor code of conduct1. Do not aim your weapon at another survivor, unless you intend to kill him. If another survivor sees you aiming your weapon at him, he may shoot you in self defense.2. In response to rule number 1: Always lower your weapon. In the case of pistols (which cannot be lowered), aim away from the other persons, don't look at them directly or you will be aiming at them.3. Do not run towards somebody you do not know while you are wielding a weapon. If the other person sees you running towards him, and if you can see him, and if you are wielding a weapon, he may shoot you in self defense.4. In response to rule number 3: Approach people with caution (stick with solid cover). Keep your distance until they can see you. Then perform a greeting which will let them know that you do not intend hostilities, e.g. lower your weapon, salute them when they lower their weapon (you may apply any other forms of greetings). After the greeting, you may leave your cover and approach each other, but keep in mind the previous rules, mainly the "do not aim your weapon at someone" rule.5. In response to rule number 4: Distrust anyone you do not know, for they may stab you in the back, even after having greeted you.6. Always apply the above guidelines, so that to decrease the possibility of accidental murder when two civilized survivors meet each other, and also to increase the chances of finding murderers amongst our midst. Gotrek (DayZ) 1 Posted April 28, 2012 All is cool except "don't aim the weapon". All smart guys aim weapons until they know that guy won't shoot in next 5 seconds
BlackAlpha 12 Posted April 28, 2012 All is cool except "don't aim the weapon". All smart guys aim weapons until they know that guy won't shoot in next 5 secondsWhich is pointless, because if the other guy shoots, you won't be able to react, anyway, because you will be dead! Therefore, stay behind cover, slowly move from behind the cover with your weapon lowered, to let it known you do not intend to shoot them. If you see their weapon raised, you stay behind cover.Raised weapon = Pow Pow time!
tpenn 9 Posted April 28, 2012 Here is a list of rules that will help identify a friendly survivor:1. Any list of rules to help identify a friendly survivor will be emulated by griefers.
bullet purveyor 1 Posted April 28, 2012 The last days I have met some people that wiggle they upper body by tapping Q and E keys as a sign of no hostility. Thats a clear visual que that is easy to perform.
interceptor 5 Posted April 28, 2012 In such a survival game, where everyone can do whatever he likes to do, the very best method is to be careful and don't let you be seen if you know there are players around. If they've seen you, you're a prey.Best thing is to send a message if anyone is around the location if you don't want to travel alone. If nobody answers, you should be very careful and ready your weapon. It doesn't mean that you should shoot everyone you see in that case, it means to be ready for conflict. If somebody answers to your message, it doesn't mean he's your friend. Quite the opposite, he can take you into a trap. Mostly, if people are in danger like a dozen of zombies are following them, they're likely to answer in chat or to accept your help.Don't even try to make such movements like salute or lower your weapon. Think about someone low on food or water or whatever for a reason he needs to kill you. He simply profits for that occasion.Another point of view : A survivor is now alive for about 15 game hours. He has the very best equipment you can get. He has 2 options :1.- He will continue to have fun at surviving but is EXTREMELY careful about enemy contact. He'll be likely to shoot you since he's scared to loose all his hard earned equipment.2.- He's getting bored. That's the most dangerous moment ...Something personal (My point of view) :I'm not a bandit nor i'm a griefer nor racist ... But, if it happens that you encounter someone that isn't willing to cooperate with you and you're not sure about his actions, it is recommanded to either shoot him or ignore him by avoiding sight contact. Same goes for people who are not talking your language which guides to impossibility to communicate with each other. He isn't useful for you nor are you for him. If you're in a bad situation like being short on supplies, being not sure about his next actions, you should better kill him in some situations. But again that's my opinion :D
nuttex 51 Posted April 28, 2012 Here's worst thing about rules such as these - bandits get someone to play a bait. Meanwhile, they kill the clueless people who met that bait.
Derranged 2 Posted April 28, 2012 5. In response to rule number 4: Distrust anyone you do not know, for they may stab you in the back, even after having greeted you.Hello,This is the main rule I have followed since the start of DayZ. I have my own friends which I travel with, everybody else is hostile.I have had my fair share of PVP'ers on the way who attempt to kill you just because you look at them.A Quote From Metro 2033, "If It's Holstile, You Kill It".~Derranged
bodycount 83 Posted April 28, 2012 They are trying to steal your beans! Shoot them first before they get your beans! In beans we trust, everyone else shoot first before they shoot you and steal your beans. Over 50% of the playerbase had a bandit skin before the reset. That means you have a 1/2 chance of being murdered by everyone that you meet. No you cannot have my beans.
deathshead 2 Posted April 28, 2012 75% is more realistic. Seems like everyone is out to kill you nowadays.
bodycount 83 Posted April 28, 2012 75% is more realistic. Seems like everyone is out to kill you nowadays.I just spent 20 minutes on the Legion server. I had no less that 5 people try and kill me in less than 20 minutes. Hell as soon as I spawned on the beach I had some guy shooting at me. The number of people camped onto rooftops sniping people just to snipe them, not for their gear, not to defend themselves, not for any reason except PEW PEW PEW was staggering. Staggering. I saw not one single person killed by zombies. ALL were killed by snipers and PvPers. Hear the rifle crack, see the dead name in the chat log. I run in zig zags and I must have dodged 20 bullets. I feel like I am in a Syrian War mod. Why would you bother playing a game like Project Reality when in a game like that you have a much higher chance of the other person shooting you first when you can play some Zombie mod and just climb roofs and snipe unsuspecting friendly people all day long? Much more fun to do. I fail to see any way to stifle or discourage this in any way shape or form. Might as well just take the zombies out since the majority of the playerbase has absolutely no interest in them. Rename it to DayP(vP)
