PvP doesn't seem that bad...

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm new to the game and I've just been lucky. Maybe I'm sticking with a relatively nice server. Maybe it's because appearing to be alone makes you look like less of a threat. But I haven't been KOS by a whole lot of people, and I don't KOS either. Although I've died to people more then zombies, I've met more friendlies then enemies. And these aren't some guys with hatchets or anything. Some guy with an M4 asked if I was friendly when he could have easily killed me and taken my DMR. I was down 5000 blood with an M16 and a guy with a winchester decided not to shoot me and take the better gun. He even gave me some beans.

I'm not saying the majority of the servers are nice. I am playing on a server with global chat on. But if you are getting killed on sight too much, maybe you should consider switching to a nicer server or something.

Or maybe I'm just new to the game and I've been lucky. I dunno. I just haven't seen the level of PvP everyone has been complaining about yet.

You've been quite lucky. Only time I chatted on general chat, I got a bandit on my mumble server, sent one of my men to meet him, and the fucker killed him.

Its because most of the rage on the forums about how bad the PVP is and how it is ruining the game is over blown. People die to zombies or bugs 8/10 times but the two times they die to other people stands out more in their mind. Some then come raging to the forums to scream about it. Most people, as with all games, who are enjoying the game and don't find big probelms with it don't often come to the forums to post about it.

You've just been lucky I guess. I just killed 2 unarmed players lying between the gates at the Balota army camp pointing flashlights at each other (it wasn't even dark!) because if they'd have run in like I did (right past them!) they'd have found an AK74 and an M16. Turns out they were hoarding AK ammo so my murders weren't as mindless as I intended it to be.

With luck, they'll learn from their mistake.... Or they'll whine on the forums that PKers are evil and that everyone or everything but themselves was to blame.

But yeah, not every server is like the one you've been playing on. It just isn't safe to hesitate to see if the other person is friendly, at least not until the devs introduce tools that make it easier to differentiate between good guys and bad guys.

There is a similar phenomenon in the Civilization V world where people think they're just going to be left alone to build their city all day and not get attacked. Then when someone with sense builds an army and crushes the peaceniks, they yell and scream about how bullshit it was.

People in DayZ seem to think they can collect beans all day and then get shocked when they are shot by someone with some sense. DayZ isn't about peaceful coexistence, it's about you and your small group of friends vs. anything that moves.

I wish the game wasn't a huge deathmatch 9 times out of 10, I want to team up with people other than my usual group of friends.

it's the one true challenge. eventually you figure out the zeds, and even the bugs. other players are always gonna offer (some) unpredictability
