No I think you need to reread this thread where Rocket explains it:

The previous four hour figure was incorrect, rather than being 4 hrs it was 40 mins - he has rewritten the script to include all players both alive and dead, the current average should be correct. (I believe it is 28 mins now).

Rocket also alludes to the average life expectancy falling to the half hour mark in an interview I read from a week or so ago.

Happy to be corrected, I don't claim to know everything about DayZ but the forum thread I posted in this comment is pretty clear.
