Any 100% New Player Tips?

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

Just bought Arma 2 CO and it's downloading on steam as we speak. Any complete tips for a new player?

Thanks!

When in doubt, press Z.

Prone is your friend.

I am also fairly new, so I'm not actually going to be much help here - but I'm an attention seeking loser, so I'm here anyway.

Stay away from big towns. Keep to the woods. Look for Deer towers (good guns and loot). Raid smaller town. Go to super markets in smaller towns. When you hear shots, run in the opposite direction if well covered (i.e. in woodlands) or crounch/prone your way to well covered areas.

Play at night until you're geared up. It's easier as Zombies don't aggro from 100 meters away as you more or less have 0 on your visibility meter.

Prone is deifently your friend, zombies can walk right past you if you have zero sound and vision while lying still.

Be cautious of other real players, a lot of them are douchebags and will kill you before you even have a chance to say a word.

Play in third person(press enter on numpad and then double tab the - key on the numpad) it is a much better and easier expereince than playing in first person.

Water and food are extremely important.

Stay away from the big cities such as cherno and elek when you are first starting out. Just go to the small towns to try adn get some supplies.

Use this (http://dayzdb.com/map#5.044.050). This map has helped me get where I am, been alive for a good 4 days now.

Be patient, the zombies do some sort of patrol route around the buildings they can spawn around but with careful slow movements and patience you can make it inside and grab the loot.

Get a knife, matches and a hatchet. Go to fields and find animals kick there asses and cut em up. Cooked meat is by far the best food as it heals 800 blood vs 200 from canned food.

Also a hatchet is an extremely good zombie killing weapon, you can prone up beside them and the axe will 1 shot regardless of where you hit them. Just make sure you're close enough and hit them.

Prone is your friend.

Unless you hear a sniper shoot at you. In which case, double-tap W is your friend; that and forests.

But, in all seriousness:

1) Be patient. If you wait long enough and pay attention, you can get into and out of any town without aggroing a zombie. The only reason they'll aggro is if they see you running or they get too close - so unless you're too impatient to go prone and wait for a zed to pass by / walk away, you can get into even NWA without needing a weapon.

2) Don't avoid NWA, Cherno, or Elektro, but be aware that those are bandit hotzones. The reason they're hotzones is because there is good loot, and the fastest way to gear up is to go to good loot locations. Be stealthy, but quick - don't sit around for an hour in the Cherno firehouse, but don't spend an hour crawling down the street to avoid aggro. I say "don't avoid" because it's indisputable that if you want gear quickly and efficiently, that's the place to go, but go in knowing that there is significant danger and prepare for it.

3) If a player is looking at you, shoot first. If they're not looking at you, get away as fast as possible. The best way to survive is to avoid conflict - so when you hear another player getting close, the best thing to do is not hunt them down but to put distance between you and them. If they see you and conflict is inevitable, take initiative and get the first shot in. (Unless they're doing the friendly dance, in which case, choose to be a bandit or not)

4) Stay away from open areas. Stick to the treeline.

5) Stay away from hilltops. Stay on hillsides to avoid skylining yourself as a target.

Oh, and most importantly:

DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO YOUR GEAR.

You will die. It's not a question of if, it's when. You will lose that M4A1 you luckily found in a deerstand, you will lose those NVGs you found on a dead guy, you will lose the car you worked so hard to rebuild and drive. You will lose your gear to bandits, zombies, bandit zombies, glitches, hackers, game updates, ninjas, Mike Tyson, admin abuse, and every time there's a full moon on the first Thursday of the month. No avoiding it, so get it into your skull right now - loot is fleeting. You get it, you lose it, you get it back.

I've probably looted 30 deer stands. Never once found a gun. Where are these fabled guns that people talk about? =P

wow really?? I find an AK in one nearly every night. Granted there are many that i've come across that had nothing but trash or where raided previously.

I say keep away from big towns or airfields only until you're comfortable and have gear and weapons that can help you in those areas. Your life expectancy will drop considerably when you're in those areas as they're points of interest.

Get a gear, if you can't find any firearms, find a hatchet, box of matches, compass, most likely a map and a hunting knife.

Watch

- around 14:00 he tells you a good spot to find guns.

A hatchet is an awesome weapon against zombies and combined with a stairs will give you a possibility to kill loads of them chasing you.

Try to figure out how close you can get to zombies crouched, prone, and standing - which you should avoid as long as you are not in the woods with no zeds around.

Dont trust anyone .

You can avoid detection by Zombies by making sure you stay behind them by going prone and crawling. If you get detected by one, your best bet is to shoot it with a quiet weapon or run away and lose it in a building, on a hill, or in a forest. Crawlers and monkey zombies are the easiest to lose, sprinters are the ones that will stay hot on your ass for miles.

Also if you spot another survivor, either shoot their ass before they shoot you or avoid them altogether if you want to stay alive. If you're being shot at and you don't know where the shooter is then double tap W and serpentine to the nearest cover you can find. Try to figure out where the shooter is and either launch a counter attack, or hatch an escape plan.

If you're being shot at in a town then you'll easily be able to see where the shooter is by observing which way the zombies are running. If you're being shot at in a field, forest, or anywhere else there isn't zombies then you should look for the muzzle flash and dust signature.
