I thought death was permanent

Just started playing DayZ and I bought ArmA II just to play it. I died for the first time a few hours ago by starvation/dehydration. After I died, I hit escape -> abort -> disconnect -> ok and it logged me back into the game. When I logged back in, my blood was ~9000, I had all of my items, and I spawned just a few feet from where I had just died. I also noticed that whenever I log out and log back in, my blood goes back to ~9000 (my character is currently starving, looking for food). So what gives? I thought death was permanent and you had to start over from scratch? Is this a bug?

I think that your char isn´t saved correct. Do you play on the same server? Maybe there is an issue with the server saving your char to the DayZ database.

You just logged out from game.... but if you choose to respawn instead, or get shot then you get a new character.

use "respawn" instead. i got down to 2700 blood once, in the middle of nowhere, and did it. it said "G33z3r was killed" on the screen. and i started over on the coast.

also, yeah, i got my 1911 reloaded for free once after logging back in. i was positive i only had 2 rounds when logging out, and when i came back i had a full clip. it's a alpha bug.

If your having buggy behaviour regarding saving things it's always worth trying a new server. Sometimes a certain server won't save your progress, it's pretty rare though.

You log out when done playing for the moment....then log in again and start from where you where when loged out.....respawn you do if you want to commit suicide or start all over fresh...

That happened to my Winchester once. About 3 times the mag filled back up to 15 shots :D

Server couldn't properly save progress. Consider yourself lucky, I guess. It usually happens at the wrong time, when you have just found epic loot and then the server d/c's and you reconnect to another only to find your character has not been saved after last time you logged out.
