tonkin97 22 Posted July 17, 2012 HI guys.been watching alot of clips of this game on youtube, and i decided to buy arma 2 the expansion pack just for Day zhowever ive not started playing it yet (gigs of downloads and work..)i did try Arma 2 which is ok, not my style of gaming, but dayz is.would it be better to learn the control system in arma 2 or take the plunge right into Dayz?i know alot of players on here only bought Arma 2 for this mod and im just wondering what your experiances are of learning Dayz controls right off the bat or did you play arma 2 for a while before taking the plunge?i know to expect alot of death and alot of desk breaking (former eve online player..inb4 rage) so i can handle being gimped after getting epic lootz.cheers :)
cucu (DayZ) 8 Posted July 17, 2012 Hijacking this topic for a silly question: how the hell can I switch to 3rd person mode? I might not have the option mapped but I cannot find in the control settings.Ontopic: I also bought Arma2 just for dayz and I only poked around the tutorial missions to get the hang of the basic controls. Dokrane 42 Posted July 17, 2012 lol, well i gather i should jump right into dayz when i get home lolDo it. I haven't touched Arma or OA, just jumped straight into DayZ. The controls are relatively standard. Except for 'G' being your inventory, as it stands for "gear". Of everything, understanding the gear system took the longest to grasp, as it's very different from any other game I've ever played. Just take a look at the controls in the menu, scan through the Infantry section and you'll get a good grasp.
G33z3r 13 Posted July 17, 2012 yeah, run the arma II by itself, or run it as operation arrowhead (better). they have nice drills for stuff like movement, shooting different arms, night vision, and even driving vehicles. they really help. you can calibrate your machine (video settings, key bindings, etc) too. i ran through these a couple times, and did key re-assignments, etc until i was totally comfortable with the setup. ;)
