Sky-lining and How to Avoid it

Recommended Posts

For some reason DayZmod.com is not letting me post images right now, and this post makes no sense without the pictures. If anyone can tell me what the trick is (it worked before) then I will delete this and post the text and images. For now you have to go to the blog to read/view it.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Back in my day it was silhouetting or just standing on top of a hill like a moron for the less technical circles.

lmao Sky lining. When i clicked this thread i thought it was going to be something about the butter roofs on top of tall buildings and how to avoid falling off or something of that jazz.

As Techercizer said above Silhouetting is the word your looking for.

Remembering back to my basic training (some 24 years ago now) it was called 'skylining' then and still is now.

Thanks for your service, have some beans.

I was in boot camp about 16 years ago... Not too far behind you.

Well, it's more of a tip for dummies, i think it's pretty much common sense even for the least bright minded out there...

You must not play DayZ much lately. Of about 30,000 new people a day I am sure *someone* can learn *something* from this article. Not everyone is hardcore FPS vets. Not to mention the fact that I get a lot of kills that proves people very little idea what they are doing.

I'm pretty sure everyone who's ever played Armed Assault is aware of this.

That is a small amount of the DayZ players. I would be surprised if it was more that 20%.

I would like to see a poll done to see how many DayZ players are brand new to ArmA. I heard ArmA had sold 70k before DayZ, pushing 700k now. More if people bought ArmA but didn't play DayZ.

it is properly refered to as both skylining and silhouetting. Avoiding it is a simple matter of staying the hell away from high, open places.

But there are lots of players who didn't played ARMA before DayZ

Beans for the OP.

It's a good tip, not all DayZ players are Arma veterans. For instance my wife plays DayZ with me and we have conversations like:

"OK sweetheart, it's great that you want to play this with me but by God your fieldcraft is shit. Why are you standing up....and are you looking in your inventory? Why? FFS take a knee or go prone. You are going to get us killed".

On the plus side my bruises are going down and the sofa is actually fine to sleep on.

I think most people here are kids who's military experience is video games. That is fine though, I wrote this for them.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the "military crest" in relation to skylining/silhouetting and tactical movement in general. It's a familiar subject to many that have even a little knowledge of fieldcraft.

Can you please elaborate? I was in the Navy so I never was taught any field craft. I can add it and credit you.
