Where should I go?

Recommended Posts

On my very very first character I started in a field with a few scattered zombies and a small farm-town near by, I went through the 1 building that I could go inside (only 1 building? /sadface) and found a shotgun.

Since then for the last 2 hours I have been running through constant trees and fields of nothing. I came across a log cabin that I couldn't go inside of.

Any tips?

Go wherever you want. It's a big world; do whatever you think would be fun.

Head south and travel along the coastline. There's a couple areas with small buildings and garages you can enter, most likely yielding food and drinks.

head to cherno and kit up really quick then GTFO FAST and head north to safety cause cherno not safe. Then NEVER COME BACK TO CHERNO. <--- this part is important for staying alive.

You will find most of the buildings can't be entered but you'll soon get to spot the enterable ones. Find a road, follow it to get to a town and hopefully find a sign with the name of the town on it. From there you can work out where you are. (There are various on-line maps). It also tells you roughly where you are in the corner when you log on.

You need a weapon, morphine, food and drink. Ultimately you would want a knife, axe and matches too.

Going North isn't safe.. especially not if you're anywhere near the NWAF or any of the larger towns up there.

There is no place that is truly safe in DayZ..

I got shot in the face in the middle of the woods in the northwest edge of the map once.. I figure I must have been getting close to a bandit camp site or something, but I was waaaaay far from the coast line and I let my guard down. Don't ever think you're safe. ;)

This will help you find interesting things to do: http://dayzdb.com/map

Do as you wish but first find some barns and find a hatchet, then find a supermarket and find some matches, water bottle, map and knife, then find a sheep and make some steaks in the woods,

Once you have a map and can read it you can find anywhere even if you walk at side of the roads.

Have fun

The first time I played DayZ I spawned west of Kamenka. I made the mistake of heading NW because I did not know the map "ended" there... After about 2 hours I got frustrated and respawned with still no equipment and dying of thirst and hunger.

I then spawned in Elektro and was killed pretty much instantly.

Then I found dayzdb.com.

I have an empty water bottle which I'll fill as soon as I can, I got some Pepsi to last me until then.

How can I talk to other players? I joined a server with 24 people on and nobody is talking?

Does the sun rise in the east and set in the west? That is how I would find my bearings.

Otherwise, I love the mostly passive zombies and the fact that I can 1shot them. :)

Ok if your lost try looking for either a road or power lines above your head, Follow either until you reach a town or village, Look for a road sign & when you find one find your location here > http://dayzdb.com/map

First thing is try and find a bigger backpack Something like a ALICE pack, This has 20 slots, If was you i would carry 4 water canteens(the green ones) ... Carry one in your utility belt and 3 in your backpack, Keep these topped up whenever you find wells or a fresh water supply, As you drink swap a empty one for a full one from your backpack and so on.

Don't bother carrying tinned food/drink on you, Any Tinned food or drink you do come across eat it on the spot to keep that hunger and thirst at bay, Don't waist slots with tinned food/drink.

Also as stated find matches a hunting knife & a Hatchet, Always have at least 5 cooked meat in total on you, 4 in your backpack & 1 in your utility belt.

With 4 water canteens, A hunting knife, Matches & a hatchet you should be able hunt animals & survive easily in the wilds without the need to venture into the large city's.

In my opinion you need two items in this order: 1. Some kind of firearm & 2. a compass .... Anything else after that is a bonus.

Using a compass & the map i provided above you should be able to navigate northern Chernarus comfortably.

Ok I am sorry to say but this inventory system is complete balls. Who the hell thought it up? and is it new or old?

Well tough. It's ArmA II's system, so you're stuck with it if you want to play.

Otherwise, how the hell do I equip this goddamn hatchet? I'm out of bullets.

Right click on it in your inventory. Make sure your primary weapon slot is empty.

I posted a new players guide on here yesterday, I'll bump it. Alltho I'm normally not quite narcistic enough to bump my own posts.

That was the first thing I tried, I even tried dropping my gun. Nothing.

When the axe is on your tool belt (the area below where your gun and back back is) right click it and a "remove axe from tool belt" option will come up. Click on that with the left mouse button and you will equip the axe. Reload the axe (yes you have to reload it at first) by pressing R.

The inventory system is hell at first but once you learn it it is not so bad, and I would even go so far as to say I actually have began to like it.

That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. I just dropped my Winchester so my weapon slot is free (well, both of them are) and right-clicked my hatchet to remove it from toolbelt but nothing happens then
