Proposal to Investigate any server which is locked for > 60 minutes in any 24-hour period

Server Locking

34 members have voted

  1. 1. Should servers be investigated for abuse if they are found to be locked for greater than sixty minutes in any 24-hour period?

    • Yes.
    • No.
    • No, and the rules should change to permit server locking without penalty.

I hate to post such a seemingly complaintive thread, but I feel this issue is rather important and have noticed more and more servers coming online that are locked indefinitely or for long periods of time.

Allownaces must be made obviously for people who have technical problems and must lock their server for a time to try and work things out (and it's understood people might have other obligations which require this lockage to last awhile).

However, it seems more common lately that these lock-outs are not technical in nature. Servers with 2-10 players online, often sharing a clan tag, but password locked are becoming more and more common on the server list.

It's hard to overstate the impact these servers can have on the integrity of play. So I think any server that remains locked for a period of time deemed appropriate (60 minutes seems reasonable to me) should be added to an "audit" and investigated by staff at their convenience.

Servers found to be running private "safe zones" or clan servers should be dealt with accordingly. Warning(s) followed by blacklisting for repeat offenses, perhaps?

Many are private hive which they can't control as well.

If it's private hive it's not their concern because it won't effect their mod or in-game economy. It's the ones that are whitelisted and connected to the hive and locked that are the problem.

With how slow things are currently with the DayZ staff now, I'd hardly think they could find time to investigate all of the people that are doing this. Seems like a lot lately.

My provider has an auto shut down script if it detects a server locked for more than a few minutes. I'm not sure why this isn't standard if it's such a big no no.

Oh, well that's a far simpler solution. Here's hoping that becomes a standard and we can put the issue to rest.

With most managed Day Z server instances (ones you get through a hosting company) I'd imagine it is.
