DayZ won't start because of X3DAudio1_6.dll

Recommended Posts

DayZ won't start (ARMAII+OA through Steam on Windows 7 Enterprise v6.1 SE1) because of an error in X3DAudio1_6.dll when I try to start it outside Steam, or through SixLauncher.

I got this problem after trying to update DayZ to the latest version. It worked fine before.

Here is the full error message:

C:\\Windows\system32\X3DAudio1_6.dll is either not designet to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

Strangely the game still runs when started through Steam, but I can't access any of the updated servers anyway, since they are all crossed out with a red X. I can join servers with old versions, but then I still don't get to play - and frankly I see no point playing the old version. Also there are nearly no players on those severs, so I want to play the updated version.

I've tried this:

  • Downloading a fresh version of DirectX and re-installing. Result: It claimed I'm up to date. Same problem persists.
  • Tried using different X3DAudio1_6 DLL's. Result: Same problem persists.
  • Tried deleting DayZ and re-installing it fresh, both trough SixUpdater and manually. Result: Same problem persists.
  • Tried deleting local Steam files for both Arma II and OA, and re-installing (took forever to DL). Ran CO once first, and reinstalled DayZ again. Result: Same problem persists.

Any idea what to do now?

(Edit reason: More detailed description)

Not sure, I would say PM zammyman, he is the expert with the steam installs, will get back to you with a fix :)

Try Installing Direct X 9.

The reason why you might be getting this issue is because direct x is not backwards compatible, this means that DxX11 my not support DX 9 games. Both these version s can be installed side by side with no interference so you don't need to be concerned about affecting your newer version of Direct x.

Hope this helps.

It says DirecX 9 is up to date. Also I've tried running the games as administrator, and with compatability check. Still got the same problem.

[FIXED]I've found some new oddities, though. Seem to be missing some files, tho. Can't run regular Arma missions, and when running Showcase 1: US Army, all US Army vehicles are missing - except the A10 for some reason... But when validating the installs through steam, it says everything is fine. *pulling hairs out of my head* [/FIXED]

FIX: Disable DayZ and you can play regular Arma 2 just fine. Only weird thing is that I could play regular Arma 2 just fine with DayZ enabled before...

Validating one more time with the new (but still failing) settings, just to make sure.

it is a dx 9 issue - infact the june 2010 hotfix.

with new dx versions like dx 10/11 they don't come with the older files.

download this: http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=8109

should be fine after.

Tried it. I'm sorry, it didn't work either... When I try to start DayZ through SixLauncher, I get the same DLL-error as before.

The game does run through steam, though, but all updated servers are crossed out with a red X and impossible to join.

EDIT: Ran this tutorial: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/36328-updating-beta-patch-fix/

Seems to be working so far. YAY! :D
