I assume what you are hearing from the description is the flies, they are markers for player corpses, though military corpses in the airfields and camps can make the noise as well.

It gets stronger and quieter as you get closer and further from the body but in the city and airstrips chances are it is a fresh kill so be wary when hearing them especially if you find the body.

Chances are you just heard the flies from the bandits last kill.

Are you sure it wasn't the drinking sound?

Those sounds are bugged and replay the first time you approach someone who has drunk/eaten during that session.

To the question in hand.. I have been close to a lot of players.. But never heard the sound you are talking about. Do you get it when your firend is close.. and Is he a "bandit" (multipl player murders)??

I have something similar going on. I play with my music on very low..... and I've noticed, on FAR to many occassions for it to be coincedence that the music starts playing, they foreboding little tune whenever another player is within X meters of me. everytime it happens, I make a mental note of it, and I've even explained it to a couple of my clanmates, and they have seen it in action. The beggining of that music file could be what youre hearing, and if so, could be the same thing as me.
