2v4 at the NW Airfield on US501

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I'm on my longest life so far, completely decked out with gear, and happy with my AS50, my Bizon, NV goggles, the works. My friend meets me up at the NW airfield and I agree to perform some sniper overwatch for him while he loots the barracks and tries to get some good supplies from anywhere he can. Everything goes fine, and he ends up looting the two northern hangars, the north barracks, the firehouse, the air traffic control tower, and the six southern hangars without incident. He informs me that he is going to check the southern barracks for anything of interest before we call it quits, and I tell him that since I don't have great visibility on the south end of the airfield without exposing myself too much, I'll keep an eye out on the northern end. Besides, there were some zombies residing closer to the barracks that were much too far from my friend to be spawned in from him, so I wanted to see if there was anyone trying to make their way over.

Me: "You're at the southern barracks, right?"

Friend: "Yeah, I'm looting it right now."

Me: "Then there's definitely someone else near the north barracks. Those aren't your zombies."

Scanning the area where the zombies are staggering around, I'm looking for other players that could potentially pose a danger to my friend or me. After about two minutes of scanning, I see some movement near one of the holes in the cement wall surrounding the airfield.

Me: "I think I see something. Oh s*!t! There's two of them, wait, three of them!"

Friend: "Where?"

Me: "In between the two industrial complexes. There at about 500 meters, I'm gonna take the shot!"

With all of their squad prone and crawling about, I was certain that they weren't alone, but I wasn't taking any chances. They are fairly small targets while prone and crawling towards my position from 500 meters, but I didn't want to risk them spotting me and giving my position to anyone else in their group. One of the guys in their group have stopped moving. He's the one farthest forward and the most exposed of the three of them.

First shot, missed. Just short by about 25 meters. It's hard to range a shot on someone who isn't standing or crouched.

He stands up to run, and I fire a second shot. He moves just before the .50 cal round makes it to him, colliding with the cement wall just behind him.

At this point they are panicking, and their objective is to escape as quickly as possible. This leaves only the openings in the wall that they can run through, not the ones you have to prone to get through, as a viable option of quick escape. I quickly anticipate where the closest opening to them is and fire another shot ranged for their exit. It collides with the second guy I saw come through the wall, and he drops dead.

Me: "I got one! He's dead, but I didn't manage to get the other two."

Friend: "Fuck it, I'm coming up there!"

My friend starts sprinting across the airfield, but I stop him short and give him a different command.

Me: "Don't run straight across the runway! Circle around north and come down from there!"

Friend: *Starts circling around from the north* "Every time I try to do something, you always tell me to do something else!"

Me: "That's because I'm trying to keep your ass from dying, now move!"

With my direction, he makes it safely to the guy's corpse and starts looting it. He had an M4A3 CCO on him, and I tell him to take that in place of his AK-74 Kobra. He then takes anything else of use off the body and hides it.

Me: "There are zombies past the last hangar to the south. That's too far away from you for them to be yours. Keep an eye out, I don't think they've left."

A couple of minutes pass.

Friend: "I see a guy! I see one!"

Me: "Where?!"

-no answer-

Me: "Where is he!?"

*full-auto gunfire rings across the airfield*

-pause-

*more full-auto gunfire rings across the airfield*

Friend: "F%*K!"

Me: "What, did you just get killed?"

Friend: "No, it just took forever for him to die. Could have been lag or something. He was behind one of the hangars to the south."

Me: "Oh, good. Finish looting him and then move back north. I want to make sure that there isn't anyone else here."

The guy he killed had a Bizon PP-19 on him, as well as an M249 SAW. I tell him to exchange the Remmington 870 (flashlight) in his backpack for the Bizon and leave the M249 behind. Once he moved back north near the barracks, the zombies at the southernmost hangar still didn't despawn. There had to be someone else down there.

Me: "I see another one! It's a girl, and she has an m24 or DMR! She must have been their sniper support!" *pulls out rangefinder*

Friend: "Where?"

Me: "South of the last hangar, in the treeline! She's at about 750 meters! Taking the shot!"

That shot I fired flew straight and true. My ranging was a bit off, but I saw blood splatter from the lower-half of her body. And for the first time in my 15 murders (which include this scenario's murders), the first shot didn't kill in one shot.

Me: "What the hell? It didn't kill her! It's okay though, I got her, she won't be going far."

I was trying to line up another shot, but she was zig-zagging pretty well and I didn't want to take any unnecessary shots, so I waited. She eventually took cover behind an evergreen tree and I could only see her feet. But her hands moved down and then back up out of sight, so I could tell she was bandaging herself. I lined up the shot based on where here feet were, and fired. She died.

Me: "Yeah, I got her! She's dead for sure now. Get over there and and replace your M4 with the DMR, It'll be more useful than that now that you have the Bizon."

It took awhile, but I was able to direct my friend to her body, and he got a shiny new DMR, but I wasn't convinced the fight was over yet. I scan the are for more zombies, and I see some near the north barracks while he is looting her body. I alert my friend to the possibility of the fourth one still being in the airfield, and then I notice something on the edge of my vision.

Zombies have spawned. On MY side of the airfield, AND they are within 150 meters of me. That means there's someone almost on top of me, and as a sniper on the field of battle, I almost pee'd myself. I glanced behind me and leaned over to quickly check and make sure that there was no-one behind me, and there he was. Their fourth guy was literally within 5 meters of my location, looking almost right at me. And then the miracle happened. He must have seen my friend walking back up to the north side of the airfield because he pulled out his binoculars and started looking around towards the south side of the airfield. I panicked and fired 9 out of the 10 rounds in my current mag, and he fell over, dead.

I ran over and looted his body as quickly as I could. I was done with the airfield for now, WAY too much action for my taste. I found a compass on his corpse, and noticed that I didn't have one for some reason. "A compass? Why don't I have a compass yet?" I said to myself. Then we headed off to safety away from the airfield, content with ourselves, and I even succeeded in my original mission: getting my friend some better gear and getting him out alive.

Great story. This is the exact kind of situation I try to get myself into every day. It's the best feeling as a sniper.

I just sit around with a ghillie suit and a M4A1 CCO SD. Wait for someone to pass, and stalk them. I wait for them to leave the airfield, and try to follow them to friends. It's more fun finding base camps than shooting random bandits!
