Best places/techniques to find animals

Today I fresh spawned at elektro, got a winchester from a dead player, a Makarov from the church and I found an ALICE Pack so I filled it with meds, ammo, a map, food and drink. I ran to the Topolka Dam, planning to go to Pusta and then Mogilevka.

But in Pusta I got attacked by some zeds which made me lose some blood, so I lost them and started running thinking I was going in the right direction, but I have no compass and end up in elektro again, a player encounter with another player made me lose even more blood.

At this point I already ate all the food in my pack trying to regain all the blood I could (I was seeing all blury, black and white, and shaking) I managed to avoid the player and went into Pusta again, trying to find some more food, but there wasn't any so I went to Mogilevka. I was about to starve to death when I found a can of sardines.

So now I have about 3500 blood, trying to survive, I read the best way to get blood is from raw meat, I have a hunting knife and hatchet but have no matches to start a fire so that's what I am looking for now, once I get them I will go hunting. So here's my question:

Where are the best places so find animals to hunt? Or maybe there's some technique like waiting at some point until you see an animal, please share your tips regarding this.

I ask because on all the time I've been playing I only saw one white goat (? not sure what it was, it was far away and moving so fast that the animation looked horrible), and I spent plenty of time outside the cities.

Sounds like you need a blood pack friend, try to hit up a buddy to get online and bring you a blood pack there not hard to find I have about 7 in my ALICE right now. Heals you completely but the kicker is it can only be applied by someone else.

Have one, but have no friends :( LOL, on my last char I also had like 5 on my pack but since I am playing solo this time I decided to take only one just in case.

If you can find some matches, I've found that the best place to find animals is in open fields. I have run into a couple boars in the woods, but almost all of the goats/rabbits/cows I have eaten have been found in fields. Maybe this is just me, but I've also noticed that animals seem to spawn in groups. I sometimes find one random animal, but I will often find groups of three or so animals just roaming around a field.

Livestock in wide open fields, often near towns.. but really anywhere

Boars in the hardwoods for the most part.

The north seems to have plenty of game, but they're everywhere.

Boars in the woods is the best bet if you are desperate, you can generally sit back at a distance and zoom in looking around the forested areas and spot the boars, they stand out pretty well and once you have seen a few you see the buggers everywhere :)

I was at the NE airfield last night and as we headed down to the hangars it was like someone released Farmer Joes stock..goats and cows invaded the strip and i thought it was a glitch and they were replacing the zeds, four goats and two cows in an area the size of a hangar. Tripped me out a bit and i was crouching around them in case they attacked :)

Head North from Electro along any road, you should find some animals around the fields by Pusta, the Topolka Dam, and even better, the huge field just before reaching Msta or Staroye.

open fields have animals. Remember that you need a knife, a hatchet (or wood), and matches to harvest the meat and cook it. You can't eat it raw.

What do you mean you have no compass so you ended up in elektro again. Navigate using the sun and your shadow.

Once in a similar situation I found a cow, 2 sheep and a goat near Staroye. I wouldn't wait at some point, I'd rather run around. Pusta has 2 medium-yield buildings, those are bound to contain food or matches at some point or another. Find a server that has third person enabled and sneak around. Also, if your vision is shaking too much, you might need to eat painkillers. Those are common too.

I am still at Mogilevka, lost some more blood so I've been passing out every few minutes, but I found and ate some cans of food so I think I wont pass out now. I finally found matches (2 boxes), my next move should be going into the wild to find some animal but i am afraid because only have one can of food left. So I think I am going to Zub, then to Vyshnoye and back to Mogilevka, and repeat that triangle until I find some animals to regain blood, I am currently at 3000.

Also found a compass so once I get a tent im setting up my first camp :), have you guys had any luck finding tents in small towns? The only time I found one was in cherno.

Finally I found a cow, I ate 6 pieces of meat and now i am at 7000 blood, I saved 2 pieces for when I get hungry so i can get food and blood later.

One box last forever? I didn't check that, I just logged in to save my character and got out the game. I assumed it was like flares and chemlights, anyway once I am able to set my camp up an extra box of matches wouldn't hurt :P

Once i was crawling ,with broken legs, from Solnichni to Berezino to find morphine, and as i was crawling, every two minutes i run into an animal. So i later i checked and saw that there are many on the coast, more than any other part of map.

Once swept ower the whole Black Forest, for more than an hour running all around, and did not find even a single rabbit! So i packed my tent and moved up north, where there is plenty game

the north but not to far north, at least in my experience, once you head more north then the airfield they start getting a bit more rare until you hit the map edge

rediculously the easiest place to find it is off map, on the rare occassions ive spawned out at sea(closest bit of land was a spit just off map near kamenka) or in the debug plains theres animals everywhere ... it may just be that they are much easier to spot though with nothing to block line of sight

Also noticed a lot of animals on northen map border. Seems that center of map gats few, while coastline and west/north edges get more animal spawns?

Sometimes in big industrial building you can find a fire that is already on. If you do not have all the pieces to make a campfire it could be useful cook raw meat with them.

There is a bug, you can gut the animal but you cant get the meat off it.

With which animaled did this happen to you? I tried with the cow, and got 8 pieces of meat from it, and 1 from a rabbit.
