ImperiumAeon 2 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Hello all,I wanted to get a poll of public opinion on this topic.A review of the ranges of the AS50/M107 vs the DMR will show that the AS50/M107 outrange the DMR by 400+ meters. However, does the 800m range really limit the DMR in any way given the current map?The rendering of characters post 800m is somewhat iffy (depending on PCs) and the newly adjusted fog greatly limits visibility most of the time.Would the DayZ public say that the AS50 and M107 is no longer superior but equal to the DMR, since DMR also can be used with night vision? Thanks for your input. Scene 36 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) The DMR is also unable to be zeroed in making, not a big drawback. The AS50 would also have faster bullet travel than the DMR I would imagine. Also the AS50 is supposed to have a lower actual sound making it harder for other players to pinpoint your location. Edited July 16, 2012 by Scene
laszers 6 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) imo the only real downfall of it is no night vision, it has zeroing and kills in one hit. but you are correct, it is very rare to go beyond 800m.dmr is much more quiet, the DMR has an audible range of 180m, the as50 455m. Scene 36 Posted July 16, 2012 Yea being one hit is the biggest advantage of the AS50.One day I will be lucky enough to upgrade my DMR for an AS50 :(

You can slightly adjust higher or lower on milidots to get between 400 and 500 with precision, for example. Also DMR mags are everywhere.Do you guys find the zeroing to be a lot easier to be precise? I haven't used an AS50, just a CZ and I found zeroing to be a bit obtuse when in between ranges. Edited July 16, 2012 by ImperiumAeon
KField86 237 Posted July 16, 2012 the as-50 is miles better, even though it can't be used in conjunction with NVGs. The fact is, on a day with good visibility, it can shoot reliably out to 1000m, and it is always a one hit kill. People don't have time to ALT F4, which is the biggest pro over the DMR. Even though the DMR shoots rather quickly, and can put a couple rounds into someone before they disconnect.. unless it's a double headshot, you're not going to kill them at around 600-700m if you manage to hit them accurately by adjusting for elevation with your mil-dots. After 400m, the gun's power seems to drop off substantially. I like the DMR. I've used it many times, but when it comes to 7.62x51mm weapons, I think the M24 is truly hard to beat due to the zeroing, and the fact it's deadly accurate out to 800, and even 900m. I'd rather fire once at a target, and know they are dead without being able to ALT F4, and be able to accomplish that at 1000m or more since I'll be well within effective range. Then have a DMR, and hit someone twice at 400m and have them someone survive with <1000 blood, giving them time to ALT F4 and have a buddy come and patch them up, and deny me their loot. Just my personal preference, and I certainly would not call the DMR an AS-50s equal.
catstyle (DayZ) 6 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) My bro ran with an AS50 yesterday, we tried to learn him how to snipe, and I gotta say, the sound it makes is harder to locate indeed, and it sounds rather cool! : DZeroing is the easiest way to learn to snipe also.Me myself?I prefer the zoom style of DMR, and the quick firing, even thou DMR gets a bit unreliable around 700+ meters, even if you know the distance and the bullet drop, it somehow feels less accurate.I wish other snipers had 2 zooms also :( Edited July 16, 2012 by catstyle
Flail 10 Posted July 16, 2012 Zeroing is the easiest way to learn to snipe also.As an active soldier I have to give you a laaarge facepalm.I prefer the DMR, because I primary play on night time servers and I love to snipe on ranges from 400-600 meters. You can sit there with your as50 and you can't see me, because it's dark (no moon). even with an assault rifle its hard to aim during night times on ranges >400 meters. The AS50 just requires you to hit the + key on your num-pad. The M107 just uses the right mouse button. Although I think the M107 has slightly more power in it's scope, meaning it zooms a touch more.
