erikgmez 3 Posted July 16, 2012 So as we all know, the Devs are planning to make Dayz a stand-alone game (rumored by September?). My question is what will happen to everyone playing the mod using ARMA 2? I read an article that said that the are planning to add enough content so they can sell it to us even those that payed for ARMA 2 would have to buy the Stand Alone version. What I would like to see is maybe they release it as a mod on steam, those who have ARMA 2 could get it for free, while others can buy it. That way Steam could handle the updates thus reducing tge need for manual updates or the use of Sixupdater. I dont know what will happen, but what are your thoughts on this? Would you buy the mod even though you bought ARMA 2 for it already? (Unless you bought ARMA 2 for the actual game haha)
entelin 13 Posted July 16, 2012 Well... you'd buy the new game, or keep playing the free arma 2 mod if you wished? It's not really more complicated than that.
Caviano 287 Posted July 16, 2012 Doubt the mod servers will be up after any standalone goes. waste of money.
vjese 20 Posted July 16, 2012 If it's as good or better as the curret dayz? ill gladly pay 15$ agai.
Herb (DayZ) 121 Posted July 16, 2012 If it's as good or better as the curret dayz? ill gladly pay 15$ agai.i would gladly pay 60, and if thats to much for anyone go get a job
Doctor_sloth 119 Posted July 16, 2012 It's not the dev's fault you had to buy ARMA 2. Nobody made you. Their collective efforts are free, and that's a fact. This reminds me of people pissing and moaning when Minecraft released for retail. You probably couldn't keep playing the alpha (or beta) because, as someone already stated, the servers will probably shut down. But as to your question? Fuck yeah I'd buy DayZ if it released as a standalone game.I apologize if I come off as a little harsh, but every user who plays DayZ should consider it a privalege, not an entitlement. Kicking dirt around and saying "but what about us? I was here from the beginning," will only leave you missing out until you decide to actually buy the game.
gizm0 96 Posted July 16, 2012 well arma 2 is still amazing without dayz
Katana67 2907 Posted July 16, 2012 Do we know if they plan on using a different or re-worked engine on standalone? Because my impression is that they're just trying to bundle the ARMA II engine and Day Z into one entity, rather than just slapping Day Z on to ARMA II as a mod. Doesn't make much sense when I say it, but do we know if it's going to be a traditional standalone? Meaning specifically, separates from ARMA II's engine faults
Aeia 2 Posted July 16, 2012 You knew you weren't buying DayZ when you bought the game, so in other words, if you expect the standalone (IF it costs) to be handed to you for free, you're madly mistaken. You bought ArmA, NOT DayZ - DayZ is simply an addon, don't even say 'but i only play DayZ on it!' it doesn't matter, I could buy Team Fortress 2 (back in the day) only to play the zombie mode, doesn't mean I'm gonna get any standalone version for free, since the core of the game is still Team Fortress 2 and not zombies. ActionManZlt 160 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Would you buy the mod even though you bought ARMA 2 for it already? (Unless you bought ARMA 2 for the actual game hahaYou chose to buy Arma 2 (which is great value at $30) to volunteer to be an alpha tester on a free Arma 2 mod.Good for you, that was your choice.Should I have gotten Diablo 3 for free because I chose to play in the free beta weekend and had to buy a new PC to do so? orb917@hotmail.com 117 Posted July 16, 2012 i got about 150 hours of play time for free out of this mod which is more than i get from most games these days, so i'll be purchasing the stand alone to, if nothing else, pay rocket back. plus the i'd like to support the philosophy that day z grew out of. any extra playtime from the stand alone at this point is gravy. athrins 39 Posted July 16, 2012 I'm more concerned about whether those cool new features coming with Arma III's engine are ever going to make it into DayZ.
MeatAbstract 47 Posted July 16, 2012 Don't regret buying Arma II for it one bit and will happily buy a stand alone version.
erikgmez 3 Posted July 16, 2012 Haha nah i understand your point. As for me I would buy it also, I love ARMA 2 on its own anyways and it was in my shopping cart before i heard of dayz. Its not the first game that does this haha like what is happening with Counter Strike or DOTA. Though recently some friends heard of Dayz and they want to play now too, i guess I will tell them to wait if this is the case haha
erikgmez 3 Posted July 16, 2012 well arma 2 is still amazing without dayz
erikgmez 3 Posted July 16, 2012 Though the only real thing I have against Dayz going stand-alone is that it might still use the ARMA 2 engine (no comformation) if thats so then why move to stand alone? Its fine the way it is right now, some more patches and it would be great. Other than that im all for the Stand- Alone version
erikgmez 3 Posted July 16, 2012 Though i really think there should be a heads up for new people on this. People are still buying ARMA 2 for Dayz as we speak. They are only going to be able to play for a short time before everything gets shut down, at this point anyone who does not have ARMA 2 already, but want to get it for Dayz should just wait
creepy6ninja 1 Posted July 16, 2012 I also heard that they were possibly going to make it free.
creepy6ninja 1 Posted July 16, 2012 i really hope it's free
creepy6ninja 1 Posted July 16, 2012 i realllly hope it's free
athrins 39 Posted July 16, 2012 I'll gladly pay good money for the end product, assuming the design philosophy and design approach doesn't change.
-Cdn-Chard 96 Posted July 16, 2012 Well, I'd hope that Rocket tries to integrate DayZ into Arma3. As a long time Arma player it'd be nice to keep it in the family, take advantage of the Arma3 engine and islands, the detail of which look amazing. As a stand alone.. I think it needs more depth of story and possible end games.
h3retic 224 Posted July 16, 2012 I think DayZ stand alone would be a bad idea, although grudgingly id still pay for it. DayZ is a mod for arma 2, in alpha stage of course, but a mod. Why suddenly make it into a stand alone game? I agree, it did introduce many new features to an existing game, but it did not make a whole new game.Rocket, live long and prosper.
daze23 549 Posted July 16, 2012 it'll be quite some time before there's a stand-alone. if there is one. and not to be negative, but it might not be as good
