SWAG Clan/Car encounter - LU123

Been playing this character for about a day now (character name: Tom). Was collecting supplies at around 21:00 GMT on the LU123 server from the medical camp near Balato airstrip with a couple of mates. Fairly successful haul, AKM, Remington shotgun, blood bags and of course the obligatory beans. As we ran out onto the road, I heard the sound of an engine, spun around and saw a rusty white GAZ barrelling towards me. As it was my first encounter with a car of any sort I panicked and fired a full mag into the drivers side window. Car rolled to a stop and two guys (? might have been three but he may have disconnected when I started firing) jumped out and let off a couple of shots with their Remington and Enfield. Put my remaining mag into one of the bailers (overkill I know) and switched to my Colt to take out the legs of the other (finished him off with a headshot using my Remington).

Unfortunately, the car then exploded, ending any dreams of owning my first vehicle and cruising the roads of Chenarus. Managed to recover a large amount of Enfield ammo and beans/soda from the other body. Turns out we had wiped out a couple of members of the SWAG clan (not sure how big they are or anything like that) and about 5-6 clan members were on at the time. To avoid any further confrontation (the Clan members kept respawning, probably to find a better spawn location to get one over on us) we fell back into the woods.

If I shot you, sorry. Overreacted to what could have been a pretty big threat but just so you know, your groups car is now a burnout wreck and your Enfield ammo (which you had been stockpiling) has come to some use. Just a little story I thought I'd share with you about one of my first truly (in my eyes) great moments in DayZ.

TL;DR - First encounter with car, crapped myself, killed passengers/clan members, car exploded :(

thats what you get....idiots who freak out and shoot there guns is exactly what people IRL and the reason i think the "right to bear arms" is just encouraging idiocy....you know ....just sayin.

What did you expect me to do? Wait till they all bailed out the car and got the upper hand or use the car as a battering ram to take me out? I've spent the last week being continually killed by snipers camping spawning areas on the south coast. I've learnt that unless I receive direct voice/on-screen communication from a

written/ spoken address to the player in question I will shoot. Obviously I'll try to avoid confrontation but in this case (although on a bit of an excitement high) I believed my use of force was proportionate to the threat perceived by both me and my mates.

Of course, you couldn't have simply ran off into the woods or anything... no. Honestly, unless they are trying to run you over (Which would be incredibly difficult to do if you had simply took cover.) it's rather hard IMO to, exit the vehicle, get your bearings (Since the screen goes black for a brief second.) and then aim and fire. Very tactically inefficient.

I think if they were going to kill you they probably would have gotten out a ways back and waited for you to start eating your beans in the middle of the road or whatever it is people without any tactical sense do...

I had some trouble with spawn campers in the begining. Just do what I did, log onto a night server with few survivors and make a run for it!

I am not saying he's an idiot (You were probably referring to the other post.) but he didn't miss either. He killed 3 people who may have been trying to survive just like him. Now if there were absolutely no bandits in the game, it wouldn't be near as scary, don't get me wrong. Without bandits I wouldn't think twice about doing any loot runs. But he's not a bandit (Well, technically he is now.), just a gun shy survivor... I'll bet if he had taken cover as his first instict one of two things may have happened. 1. They keep on driving. or 2. They stop the car and try to get out. (In which case I might have been more cautious and possibly confronted them myself.) In the second situation though, you have the upper hand, and they should know that.

I believe you did the right thing. They said nothing to you over VoiP, gave you no indication that they were friendly, so ultimately they had to die. Thats how it is in DayZ. Survive with your friends and kill everyone else. If you dont like it, get out.
